Idonije did not make the Giants' final roster, the New York Daily News reports. Two years removed from a 7.5-sack season, Idonije will likely enter the 2014 campaign without a home. He was released by the Bears in June, and then met the same fate in New York after the final game of the preseason.

Idonije signed with the Giants on Tuesday, ESPN.com's Dan Graziano reports. Idonije posted just 11 tackles and a half sack in 2013, but he's only two years removed from a 7.5-sack season for Chicago. Still, he might have trouble making the final roster since the Giants already have Jason Pierre-Paul, Mathias Kiwanuka, Damontre Moore and Robert Ayers at end.

Free agent DL Israel Idonije will visit the Bears Tuesday. Idonije spent the first nine seasons of his career in Chicago, posting 28.5 sacks while playing all over the formation. He spent last season as a backup left end for the Lions, recording just a half-sack and two quarterback hits. Idonije, now 33 years old, would a least give the Bears' defensive line some familiarity as the incorporate Lamarr Houston and Willie Young.

Lions placed DL Israel Idonije on injured reserve with a neck injury, ending his season. Idonije appeared in all 15 games prior to getting injured, making 11 tackles. He's strictly a situational run stopper at this point in his career and is unlikely to attract much interest in free agency this offseason.

New Lions DL Israel Idonije said his primary role will be as a run-stopping end on early downs. "In that the 4-3 style defense, stopping the run is the first focus," Idonije said. As a Bear, he was asked to get after the quarterback a little more, leading to 7.5 sacks and 51 disruptions last season. Now part of the Lions' deep defensive line rotation, we wouldn't expect Idonije to match those numbers.

Israel Idonije's one-year deal with the Lions is worth $840,000, and includes $485,000 in guaranteed money. Idonije can earn $65,000 in bonuses for a potential total of $905,000. Because he was signed for the veteran's minimum, Idonije's cap hit is only $620,000. The Lions let Cliff Avril walk in free agency, and subsequently found themselves lacking depth at defensive end. Idonije will give Detroit quality snaps in their defensive line rotation.

New Lions DL Israel Idonije had 51 quarterback disruptions last season, just three fewer than Jason Pierre-Paul. Idonije did his damage on 56 less rush attempts. He can also stop the run from the end spot and rush from the inside on nickel downs. Although Idonije will turn 32 in November, the Lions stole a highly productive player. Pro Football Focus suggests that this year's defensive line might be better than the 2010 unit that graded out best in the entire league.
