It's the best possible outcome for a free-agent wideout in terms of the opportunity to earn playing time. Washington should have open competition behind top dog Terry McLaurin, with Steven Sims and Trey Quinn battling for slot snaps while Inman jockeys with the likes of Antonio Gandy-Golden and Cam Sims for outside work. There has been some mention of Sims potentially lining up outside, but this still profiles as a favorable situation for the 31-year-old Inman, who caught 12 passes for 181 yards in seven appearances for the Colts and Chargers last year. He had his best season back in 2016, when he put up a 58-810-4 receiving line for an injury-plagued Chargers squad.

Since putting up a 58-810-4 line on 97 targets in 2016 with San Diego, Inman has transformed into a journeyman, spending time with the Bears and Colts in addition to a second stint with the L.A. version of the Chargers. During that three-year stretch, he combined for 65 catches for 828 yards and four touchdowns. Washington lost second-year pro Kelvin Harmon to a torn ACL and otherwise has an inexperienced receiving corps, so Inman would provide a veteran presence to the group, if he signs with the team.

Inman registered 12 receptions for 181 scoreless yards in 2019.

Inman started the season with the Chargers and played four games before being cut and signing with Indianapolis, where he geared up in three outings. He'll turn 31 years old in late January, and he'll be an unrestricted free agent in March.

Inman caught two of three targets for 25 yards in Monday night's 34-7 loss to the Saints.

Inman's output included a long catch of 22 yards, showing his familiarity with the Colts' offense after rejoining the team earlier in the week. Although he's just a depth option, Indy's rotating cast of receivers at least opens opportunities for those who remain healthy, potentially allowing Inman to carve out a little late-season value.
