He'll add depth to the defensive backfield for the Week 17 matchup with the Packers along with a possible playoff run, but don't expect him to see many snaps. Butler signed with the Lions half-way through the season after being cut during training camp during the offseason last year. He played in eight games last season, totaling three tackles. The terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Butler signed a one-year deal with the Bucs on Tuesday, Yahoo! Sports' Rand Getlin reports. He will be added to the active roster to provide depth in Tampa's secondary, but will likely be treated as an emergency option. In three seasons Butler has just seven total tackles, but has managed to force three fumbles, which may have been what caught coach Lovie Smith's eye.

Butler, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Steelers in 2010 who was signed off Arizona's practice squad last year. With Leodis McKelvin still rehabbing from surgery, the door is wide open for Butler to make a move up the depth chart.
