Rams CB Cortland Finnegan (thigh) missed his third consecutive practice Friday, and officially questionable for Week 16. Finnegan missed two days of practice last week before ultimately suiting up for the Rams' loss to the Vikings, but there's no guarantee he's on the field for Sunday's contest against the Buccaneers. If Finnegan can't play, rookie Trumaine Johnson, who has seen the bulk of the action lately at nickel back, is most likely to start opposite fellow rookie Janoris Jenkins.

Football Outsiders ranked Cortland Finnegan as the NFL's stingiest cornerback in coverage last season in terms of yards-per-attempt allowed. Finnegan's 4.3 YPA beat out Texans slot CB Brice McCain and Eagles CB Asante Samuel's 4.4 mark. The 49ers' Chris Culliver ranked fourth per Football Outsiders' charting at 4.9. Pro Football Focus had similar numbers on Finnegan, although both stats and analysis websites ranked him much lower in 2010. The Rams obviously hope they'll get the good Finnegan for the next five years.

Rotoworld's Gregg Rosenthal reports that Cortland Finnegan can max out his five-year contract at $51.25 million. Finnegan makes $24 million in the first two years of the deal. Finnegan gets $5 million to sign, and $5 million in 2012. He's due a guaranteed $5 million roster bonus the first day of the 2013 league year, and a $9 million salary in 2013 also guaranteed for skill and injury. He's due a $3 million roster bonus in 2014 (guaranteed early in the 2013 offseason) and $6 million in salary. In 2015, Finnegan's salary jumps to $8 million. He's due a $2 million roster bonus the 3rd day of the 2016 league year and has an $8 million salary in 2016. Finnegan also gets $312,500 added to his 2016 salary every season that Finnegan makes the Pro Bowl and the team makes the playoffs. Finnegan will make $33 million over the next three years and most of it ($26.5 million) is guaranteed.

Rams agreed to terms with CB Cortland Finnegan on a five-year, $50 million contract. The Redskins, Cowboys, Bucs, Bears, Lions and Cowboys all liked Finnegan, but the Rams had an inside track with former Titans coach Jeff Fisher now in charge. Coming off a borderline Pro Bowl season, Finnegan fills a major need as the Rams' top corner. At age 28, he should have at least 2-3 years of above-average play remaining.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Rams will host Cortland Finnegan for a free agent visit on Friday. As expected, Finnegan isn't rushing into any visits. He's listening to offers, and has only one formal meeting finalized. St. Louis is thin at corner after cutting Ronald Bartell on Monday. Finnegan can cover the slot and play outside, and he's got a long history with new Rams head coach Jeff Fisher.

Despite Monday's cap hit from the league office, ESPN's John Clayton expects the Redskins to remain in aggressive in pursuit of free agents Cortland Finnegan, Vincent Jackson and Eddie Royal. Dozens of reports have linked Jackson to the Redskins, but Finnegan is flying under the radar as a target for GM Bruce Allen and deep-pocketed owner Daniel Snyder. The Redskins and Cowboys can split their cap hits between 2012 and 2013. Profootballtalk's Mike Florio astutely points out the two teams will likely "spend now and fight later."

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams' five veteran cuts on Monday cleared $18.8 million in salary cap room. The Rams entered Monday $1.2 million under the cap, so they should enter the free agency period with roughly $20 million to spend. It's plenty to make a run at a top-flight free agent such as Cortland Finnegan, though St. Louis may look to spread its money around a bit more. Other rumored Rams free agent targets include DT Jason Jones, CB Eric Wright, and WR Pierre Garcon.

Fox Sports Southwest's Matt Mosley "hears" Cortland Finnegan has grabbed the cornerback "pole position" from Brandon Carr on the Cowboys' free agent wish list. Carr offers better size and press coverage ability on the outside, but there's no question Finnegan has been the superior player to date. The latter is expected to draw serious interest from the Bucs, Vikings, Bears, and perhaps Rams.

The Tampa Bay Times reports free agent CB Cortland Finnegan is "considering taking a couple of visits" before signing with a new team. Finnegan has been a rumored target of the Bucs, but seeking top dollar, it sounds like he'll do his due diligence before signing. That could change if the Bucs knock his socks off shortly after the 4PM ET start of free agency on Tuesday.

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Cortland Finnegan has been trying to recruit Vincent Jackson as a package deal in free agency, most likely to the Buccaneers. Cole acknowledges the Bears are also a possibility for the dynamic duo. We suspect the Vikes could be in the mix as well. All three teams have not only salary cap space, but also a need at cornerback and receiver. Finnegan has been texting Jackson, though it's not clear just how much interest the latter has in tagging along. The package deal would take the Cowboys out of the picture for Finnegan.
