Shorts (knee) faces an 18-24 month recovery and might not return to the NFL, Joe Scalzo of Columbus Monthly reports.

EDGE Analysis

Shorts suffered a devastating right knee injury in early December that included a torn ACL, MCL and PCL, not to mention a dislocated kneecap. The short end of his recovery timeline would put him on schedule to be ready for training camp ahead of the 2018 campaign while the latter end would rule him out for that season entirely. Either way, in order to play again the diminutive receiver will not only have to recover in full but also regain the necessary burst to separate from opposing defenders. A return from a catastrophe like this would be a gruesome task for any player, but for a 29-year-old veteran whose already shown signs of decline, it seems nearly impossible.

Shorts finished the 2016 season with 11 receptions (27 targets) for 152 yards and no scores over nine games. He also returned one kickoff for 19 yards.

EDGE Analysis

The sixth-year pro arrived in Tampa five days prior to the season opener after a surprise release by the Texans, and it could well prove to be the final stop of his career. Shorts suffered a catastrophic knee injury in Week 13 versus the Chargers, one that saw him tear the ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee. Going on 30 years of age, the Mt. Union product is thus likely to encounter significant difficulty in regaining both the necessary explosion and requisite interest from teams that would enable him to once again acquire gainful employment in the league. Shorts also had trouble achieving separation on a consistent basis when he was healthy in 2016, as he notably went without a reception in three of the nine contests he was active for, and tallied just one catch in four others. A veteran with a solid track record, Shorts was thought to have a realistic chance of vaulting Adam Humphries for the slot receiver role when he was first signed, but then actually was handed the reins of the No. 2 job once Vincent Jackson (knee) was lost to injury. Having failed to make a significant impact in that role and now also facing an extensive rehabilitation, he doesn't figure to be on the NFL radar in 2017 at a minimum.

The Buccaneers placed Shorts (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

The move was expected after Shorts dislocated and tore the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his right knee Sunday at San Diego. With his season over, he finishes with 11 catches (on 27 targets) for 152 yards. In order to replenish the receiving corps, the Buccaneers have promoted Josh Huff from the practice squad.

Shorts, who is slated to miss the remainder of this season, tore his ACL, MCL and PCL, and dislocated his knee during Sunday's game against the Chargers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

EDGE Analysis

Shorts' knee injury is as bad as it gets, and will understandably prevent him from playing again this season. At 28 years old, Shorts unfortunately now faces a long road to recovery as he becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He finishes 2016 with 11 catches for 152 yards, and his absence figures to offer Adam Humphries (concussion), Russell Shepard and Freddie Martino more looks going forward.

Shorts suffered a season-ending knee injury during Sunday's game against the Chargers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

EDGE Analysis

Shorts is believed to have done extensive damage to his right knee Sunday, and although exactly what injuries he incurred are not known yet, the veteran's season has already been deemed over. With Shorts sidelined going forward, Russell Shepard and Freddie Martino could see more work opposite Mike Evans, with Adam Humphries (concussion) a candidate to receive even more targets from his slot position when healthy.

The Buccaneers believe Shorts may have suffered a major right knee injury in Sunday's victory over the Chargers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

The full extent of the injury that forced Shorts from Sunday's game has not been confirmed, but the Buccaneers believe he may have torn all the ligaments in his knee and also dislocated it. Official word on Shorts' diagnosis should be provided shortly, but it appears he is dealing with a type of injury that will cut short his campaign. That would open up snaps for fellow receivers Adam Humphries (concussion) if healthy, as well as Russell Shepard and Freddie Martino.

Smith won't return to Sunday's game at San Diego due to a knee injury, Scott Smith of the Buccaneer's official site reports.

EDGE Analysis

After taking a hit to the knee on Tampa Bay's first possession of the contest, Shorts required the service of a cart in order to leave the field, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. Upcoming evaluations will determine the severity of the injury, but the fact he couldn't leave the field under his own power or with the help of trainers, he may indeed have a serious issue. Once a diagnosis is known, his recovery effort will come into focus.

Shorts caught one of his three targets for six yards in Sunday's 14-5 win over the Seahawks.

EDGE Analysis

After an uptick in production in three successive games, Shorts regressed in a matchup against the Seahawks' stingy secondary. Mike Evans was the focal point of the air attack in the first quarter with two touchdown receptions, and the Bucs primarily rode a ferocious defensive effort that thoroughly stymied Russell Wilson and company for the balance of the game. The veteran wideout remains the No. 2 receiver, but his production is clearly going to fluctuate week-to-week in an offense where primary pass catcher Mike Evans receives an inordinate amount of the targets.

Shorts brought in five of seven targets for 62 yards in Sunday's 19-17 win over the Chiefs.

EDGE Analysis

Shorts looks to finally be settled in to his No. 2 receiver role, having tallied seven catches overall in the last two games and setting season high marks in receptions, yards and targets Sunday. In fact, Shorts has now seen his numbers in all three of those categories increase in each of the last three games, an encouraging development for his fantasy prospects. He'll look to continue upping his contributions when the Bucs face off with the Seahawks in Week 12.

Shorts gathered in two of five targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 36-10 win over the Bears.

EDGE Analysis

Shorts continues to crawl out of his personal hole that saw him record just one catch over the first four games in which he was active. He now has three receptions over the last two games for 58 yards, although he's been far from efficient, as he's needed nine targets to secure that tally. However, there's room for plenty of growth production-wise for Shorts, given that the Bucs' wide receiver depth chart remains considerably thin beyond Mike Evans.
