ESPN Boston doesn't envision the Patriots being interested in a reunion with free agent CB Asante Samuel. The Patriots are focused on re-signing Aqib Talib. However, if he gets away, New England is going to need a starting outside corner to play opposite Alfonzo Dennard. Samuel isn't expected to be on the list of potential options. He recently turned 33, andy is best days are long gone. Samuel will likely have to settle for a one-year deal with little to no guaranteed money.

The Charlotte Observer considers the Panthers "unlikely" to sign free agent CB Asante Samuel. The fit makes some sense at surface level because Panthers DC Sean McDermott coached Samuel in Philly, and Carolina is arguably the NFL's most corner-needy team. Samuel turned 33 in January, however, and GM Dave Gettleman is likely aiming higher. Beat writer Joe Person believes Samuel would be "an emergency fallback option at best" if Carolina can't re-sign CB Captain Munnerlyn.

Falcons released CB Asante Samuel. The writing was on the wall for this one. Samuel turned 33 years old last month and had been relegated to backup duties at the end of the season so the Falcons could get looks at youngsters CBs Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant. The move clears over $4 million in 2014 cap space. Samuel is a four-time Pro Bowler, but his best days are obviously behind him. Pro Football Focus graded Samuel out as its No. 57 corner out of 110 qualifiers in 2013.

Falcons LCB Asante Samuel is due $5.25 million in 2014 salary and bonuses. He's scheduled to be on the books for a $3.5 million base salary, $750,000 roster bonus next fall, and $1 million in per-game roster bonuses. Although Samuel remained a largely effective cover man when healthy in 2013, the 33-year-old was often injured and lost his starting left corner job to rookie Robert Alford late in the season. We'd be shocked if the Falcons kept Samuel.

Falcons CB Asante Samuel said he doesn't know if he'll be back with the team in 2014. "We'll see how it goes," Samuel said. "I don't know." Samuel will turn 33 next month and carries a $5.125 million cap number in 2014, the final year of his contract. Rookie Robert Alford is expected to get the majority of the snaps at left corner opposite Desmond Trufant over the final three weeks for the 3-10 Falcons, who are in full-blown evaluation mode. Pro Football Focus has graded Samuel out as its No. 58 cover corner out of 111 qualifiers this season.

A source tells FOX Sports that Asante Samuel merely "tweaked" his troublesome thigh in Sunday's win over the Rams. Per reporter Mike Garafolo, Samuel left in the first quarter as a precaution. It suggests he could be ready for a potential Week 3 showdown with Mike Wallace. We'll know more when the Falcons resume practice Wednesday.

Falcons LCB Asante Samuel (thigh) is inactive for Week 1 against the Saints. It's a huge loss for the Falcons in a likely shootout in New Orleans, and makes Drew Brees that much stronger of a play. Also inactive for the Falcons are RB Josh Vaughan, S Kemal Ishmael, OT Jeremy Trueblood, OG Harland Gunn, DT Travian Robertson and DE Stansly Maponga.
