Green has been released by the Jets. With Daryl Richardson also cut by the team, the Jets' backfield is currently in line to be headed by Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powel.

Alex Green hinted in a tweet he has been released following the Jets' acquisition of RB Daryl Richardson, but on Saturday the Jets confirmed he was still with the team. With seven running backs currently on the Jets' roster, Green is still unlikely to be a Jet when the 2014 season begins.

Jets RB Alex Green rushed five times for 14 yards in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Bills. The Jets ran a season-high 41 times on Buffalo, and Green saw snaps because Chris Ivory suffered an early-game hamstring injury and did not return. If Ivory sits out at Tennessee in Week 4, Green could get another five or so touches.

The Packers appear to view Green and Starks as superior early-down backs to Franklin, who looks ticketed for a situational passing-back role. Green and Starks are quite possibly vying for one roster spot.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Alex Green and James Starks have "been more impressive" than rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin early in Packers camp. We wouldn't read too much into it. Veteran courtesy has had Green and Starks running with the first team, where it's easier to stand out. Lacy and Franklin weren't drafted to sit on the bench behind two backs who have had plenty of chances and done little with them. Provided they don't face-plant in the preseason, Lacy and Franklin are still the best bets to lead Green Bay in touches.

Alex Green opened training camp as the Packers' starting running back Friday, but James Starks took the first rep Saturday. The Packers are going to work all of their backs into the mix with the first-team offense, so we wouldn't read much into this at all. Green -- who ran with the "ones" throughout the spring -- and Starks are likely getting the nod ahead of rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin based solely on experience.

One NFL personnel boss believes the Packers may shop Alex Green toward the end of training camp. They won't be able to expect much for the 2011 third-round pick, who through two NFL seasons has suffered a torn ACL and averaged a paltry 3.44 yards per carry. GM Ted Thompson would have to be willing to accept a late-round pick for Green. "They have trade material," said the personnel chief. "Green, not (James) Starks." Starks is more likely to be released outright.
