With Duncan no longer in the Spurs' rotation, it opens the door for LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol to dominate the frontcourt minutes even more this coming season.

The Spurs seemingly prepared for a potential Duncan departure by signing Pau Gasol to a two-year, $30 million contract over the weekend, and it's uncertain if the 40-year-old would be willing to accept a backup role behind Gasol. Duncan already exercised his $5.6 player option for the 2016-17 season, so he'll be due that salary regardless of what he ends up deciding. He saw his production dwindle to career-worst levels last season, as he averaged just 8.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks across 25.2 minutes per game in his 61 appearances.

Duncan exercised his player option worth $5.6 million for next season Monday, but remains unsure whether he will return for 20th season, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.

According to Wojnarowski's report, Duncan is giving serious consideration to playing despite being 40 years old. Duncan's averages took a dip last season, as he posted just 8.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, and it's likely they'd dip even more next season along with his minutes. However, if healthy, Duncan still can serve as a great interior defender and capable offensive talent around the rim.

Duncan collected 19 points (7-14 FG, 5-6 FT), five rebounds and a block over 34 minutes in Thursday's 113-99 season-ending Game 6 loss to the Thunder.

After totaling just 17 points over the first five games of the series, Duncan was finally able to post his first double-digit scoring game of the postseason. It also marked the first time he took double-digit shot attempts in the playoffs, and marked the only time he received over 30 minutes of playing time. Given his struggles at times this season, and his minimal playoff impact, the 40-year-old heads into the offseason with more questions than ever about his future.

Duncan grabbed three rebounds across 12 minutes during the Spurs' 111-97 loss to the Thunder in Sunday's Game 4.

EDGE Analysis

Duncan did not attempt a single shot, and he committed four fouls in his limited minutes. Given how long the Thunder opted to pair Steven Adams and Enes Kanter together in Game 4, it was somewhat surprising that Duncan was barely used. Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich has been calling David West's number during crunch time, and Duncan has been glued to the bench over the last two contests, seeing a combined 26 minutes. After averaging 25 minutes in the regular season, the 40-year-old is playing only 19.5 minutes per game in the postseason.

Duncan finished with just two points (1-8 FG) nine rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes during Monday's Game 2 loss to the Thunder.

Although he did lead the team with nine rebounds, Duncan was never able to make his presence felt offensively. The five-time champion connected on just one of his eight shots and failed to get to the free throw line for the first time this postseason. It's good to see him being active on the glass, but San Antonio will need him to be more aggressive on the offensive end if they hope to make another deep playoff run.

Duncan has hauled in 20 rebounds through the first two playoff games while averaging five points, two dimes, 1.5 blocks, and one steal in 24 minutes per game. The Spurs have demolished what's left of the Grizzlies' injury-ravaged roster, and Duncan is unlikely to play heavy minutes in this series given the blowout nature of the contests. However, it's nice to see him grabbing boards and throwing textbook outlet passes to start up San Antonio's fast break, and the soon-to-be 40-year-old center is still anchoring the middle well for the best defensive club in basketball.
