The dual knee surgeries Andrew Bynum is undergoing Tuesday are arthroscopic.
When looked at in a vacuum, an arthroscopic procedure is not serious. It's just a clean-out designed to alleviate pain and swelling. But when taken in the context of Bynum's knee history, the scopes are significant. He's previously had major surgeries to repair a dislocated kneecap and torn cartilage, and then sustained a bone bruise this season. Any team signing Bynum as a free agent this summer will be taking a monumental risk. The Sixers paid him $16.5 million in 2012-13 and he played zero minutes.
