Derrick Brown was given a qualifying offer by the Bobcats on Friday. Brown was the preferred SF option for the Bobcats down the stretch, but with the acquisition of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist he'll be pegged for a backup role sooner rather than later. As one of the Bobcats' better players, the move gives them better flexibility as they try to retain their depth.
