The Raptors uncharacteristically have plenty of depth at center, but Stiemsma's ability to defend the paint (1.2 blocks per game in his career despite averaging just 16.0 minutes) could give him a leg up in the competition.

Stiemsma signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Raptors on Thursday, ESPN's Marc Stein reports. The Wisconsin product spent last season with the Pelicans, averaging 2.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in a career-high 18.3 minutes per game. Toronto will be Stiemsma's fourth team in as many years, and the big man will battle with Chuck Hayes and Lucas Nogueira for playing time at center off the bench.
