Hayward (ankle) had his hard cast removed and is now in a boot, Celtics official team content manager Marc D'Amico reports.

EDGE Analysis

Hayward is still not expected to return this season, though this news certainly bodes well for his recovery in general, especially looking ahead to next season. In his stead, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum will seemingly continue holding down the fort on the wing.

Hayward (ankle) is not expected to return this season, Mark Murphy of The Boston Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

According to Hayward's agent Mark Bartelstein, it's unrealistic to expect the star forward to be on the court again this season. Hayward did undergo successful surgery Wednesday night, however, and will begin rehabbing immediately in Boston. While it'll surely be a long recovery for Hayward, there is no reason to believe he won't be ready for the start of training camp next season. In his absence, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart will continue to see extended minutes on the wing.

Hayward (ankle) will undergo surgery Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

Hayward suffered both a dislocated ankle and a fractured tibia during the team's regular-season opener Tuesday, and he's opted to undergo surgery right away. The Celtics are expected to update his timetable for a return following surgery, so we should have a good idea by the end of Wednesday or early Thursday regarding whether or not Hayward will be able to return at some point this season. In the meantime, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier are all expected to benefit from his absence.

Hayward has officially been diagnosed with a fractured left ankle, Jay King of MassLive.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Hayward had to be stretchered off the court Tuesday after landing awkwardly on his left leg and as originally expected, he's dealing with a fractured ankle. That will likely cost Hayward the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign, though the Celtics haven't provided any sort of update on a potential timetable. With high expectations coming into Boston, it's a brutal blow for both Hayward and the Celtics, but he'll now have to start the long road to recovery with the hope of making a speedy recovery. With Hayward sidelined, Jaylen Brown will likely get all the minutes he can handle, while Terry Rozier should be in line for a bigger role as well.

Hayward had to be stretchered off the court during Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Cavaliers with a lower left leg injury, Chris Forsberg of ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

Hayward landed awkwardly on his left foot and appeared to suffer a broken ankle, though that hasn't been confirmed at this point and we'll likely need to wait until tests are performed after the game for a final diagnosis. Still, it looked like a very serious injury and Hayward had to be stretchered off the court, which likely means he's in store for a lengthy absence. Look for another update following the game.

Hayward (rest) will draw the start during the team's preseason finale against the Hornets on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

Hayward didn't play Monday for a rest day. It's possible he sees significant run Wednesday, as it marks the team's last exhibition game before the real thing against the Cavaliers to open the season. Making sure the starters are on the same page could be a priority.

Hayward will be rested for Monday's game against the 76ers, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

EDGE Analysis

Brad Stevens will rest a number of his regulars Monday, so expect Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier, among others, to pick up increased minutes. Hayward's last chance to tune up for the regular season will come Wednesday in Charlotte.

Hayward scored nine points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt) while adding a team-high five assists, two rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes during Friday's preseason win over the 76ers.

EDGE Analysis

The former Jazz star is very quickly adapting to life with the Celtics alongside Kyrie Irving, and with the talented guard taking the scoring lead for the club, Hayward may find himself with more distribution duties than he's had the last few seasons in Utah. The 27-year-old wing averaged a career-high 5.2 assists per game back in 2013-14, and he has the skills to challenge that mark as he fills a point-forward role in Boston.

Hayward finished Monday's preseason opener against the Hornets with five points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one turnover across 17 minutes.

EDGE Analysis

Hayward, as well as Kyrie Irving and Al Horford, all played in just the first half Monday, as coach Brad Stevens attempted to limit their workload and get a look at some of the younger talent on the roster. Still, the elite trio seemed to play well off each other, though Hayward is certainly going to have to get used to playing second fiddle to Irving. Hayward had just six field goal attempts to Irving's 11, which is likely a trend that will continue, even when the regular season approaches.

Hayward agreed to a contract with the Celtics on Tuesday, Chris Haynes of ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

Hayward, arguably the most high-profile free agent of the summer, has opted to join his former college coach Brad Stevens in Boston to play for the Celtics. He'll be joining a roster with other All-Star caliber talent such as Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford, not to mention important role players such as Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder. He will undoubtedly be inserted into the starting five from day one, presumably at the small forward slot, likely bumping Jae Crowder to either the bench or up to power forward. Hayward averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 boards, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steal and 2.0 threes across 34.5 minutes per game last season and should be in line for a similar workload for the Celtics, who were the number one seed in the East last season. With significant offensive talent already on the Celtics, it seems possible Hayward's numbers could dip, but it's important to keep in mind that the East is noticeably weaker than the West at the moment, which should put Hayward up against worse competition than he's used to on a regular basis. All in all, Hayward should continue to be one of the top fantasy options available in all formats.
