Nowitzki accumulated 12 points (5-8 FG), seven rebounds and six assists in a 97-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Nowitzki has been a shell of himself this season, but this may have been his best all-around game of the year, In fact, the six assists marked a season-high, while the seven rebounds made for one of his best totals of the season. Much of that has to be attributed to the fact that he played 29 minutes, which also tied a season-high. The scoring numbers have to be concerning though, as this was only the second time in his last six games that he's scored more than seven points. It's clear that the years are catching up to Dirk and he's becoming a nuisance for fantasy owners with such a limited ceiling.

Nowitzki registered 13 points (5-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds and three assists across 21 minutes in Wednesday's 119-98 loss to the Clippers.

EDGE Analysis

The ageless veteran was highly efficient with his modest amount of minutes, hauling in his second-highest amount of rebounds in the process. Nowitzki did see his three-game streak of multiple three-pointers come to an end, but he's drained at least one long-distance shot in four straight. The 20-year pro likely won't see over 30 minutes in any game this season, but he's proven capable of generating solid numbers with an abbreviated allotment of playing time (six straight double-digit scoring efforts).

Nowitzki posted 18 points (7-11 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 0-1 FT), five rebounds and one assist across 25 minutes in Monday's 104-89 loss to the Jazz.

EDGE Analysis

Nowitzki turned in the only double-digit scoring effort on the Mavs' first unit, accomplishing the feat largely on the strength of his third straight game with multiple three-pointers. The 20-year veteran has ripped off five straight double-digit scoring efforts and is shooting a blistering 61.1 percent (11-for-18) over his last two games. While the fact he's seeing less than 30 minutes a game will cap his overall production, Nowitzki is still aptly capable of offering serviceable production in scoring, three-pointers and boards.

Nowitzki will play and start in Friday's preseason finale against the Hornets, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Nowitzki was held out Thursday for rest purposes, but he'll be out on the court for the second of a back-to-back set. The veteran will likely play limited minutes in Friday's contest, as it will serve as a brief tuneup before the start of his 20th NBA season.

Nowitzki won't play during Thursday's game in order to get some rest, Mavericks play-by-play analyst Mark Folowill reports.

EDGE Analysis

With Harrison Barnes being rested as well, it seems likely that Dwight Powell and other relatively deep reserves will see significant run during Thursday's game. The Mavericks play again Friday -- a contest which Nowitzki should be tentatively be considered questionable for.

Nowitzki, who sat out the Mavs' last preseason game Oct. 5 for rest purposes, isn't listed on the team's injury report heading into Monday's exhibition against the Magic, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Mavericks have little to gain by handing the 39-year-old Nowitzki extended minutes during the exhibition slate, but his absence from the injury report Monday suggests that he'll likely pick up some run as Dallas finishes out a home-and-home series with Orlando. Nowitzki is poised to enter the regular season as the Mavs' starting center, but he could see his playing time decline further from the 26.4 minutes per game he logged in 2016-17 with the more defensive-minded Nerlens Noel offering head coach Rick Carlisle an attractive alternative off the bench.

Nowitzki will not play in Thursday's preseason game against Orlando, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

EDGE Analysis

After playing Wednesday night, the Mavs will rest a number of key players Thursday, including Nerlens Noel, Wes Matthews, J.J. Barea, Josh McRoberts, and Harrison Barnes. Expect most, if not all, of that group to return to action Monday for a rematch against the Magic in Dallas.

Nowitzki posted eight points (3-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds and three assists across 17 minutes in Wednesday's 118-71 preseason win over the Bulls

EDGE Analysis

Nowitzki has made the move to center for 2017, and Wednesday's performance shows that the 39-year-old All-Star remains a serviceable option in the paint despite his age. In an effort to keep Nowitzki fresh, Nowitzki's minutes will continue to decline (as it has for the past two seasons) and he will likely sit occasionally. As a result, fantasy owners should temper their expectations and consider a streaming option at center if you choose to roster him.

Nowitzki is expected to open the season as the team's starting center, Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reports.

EDGE Analysis

Despite re-signing Nerlens Noel this offseason, coach Rick Carlisle said he wants to start Nowitzki at center in order to allow the Mavericks to pick up the pace and space the floor better. That should also mean Harrison Barnes slides over to power forward. Still, this likely won't result in any dramatic changes to Nowitzki's fantasy value. He's still 39 years old and the Mavericks will likely take a cautious approach with his workload most nights, which could ultimately hurt Nowitzki's overall fantasy utility. After averaging 26.4 minutes a season ago, it wouldn't be surprising if Nowitzki saw his playing time take a slight dip once again in an effort to keep him as fresh as possible.

Nowitzki and the Mavericks agreed to terms on a two-year, $10 million deal Thursday, ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

While Nowitzki was technically a free agent, there was no doubt he'd be back with the Mavericks, and the veteran has once again given the team a discount. At age 39, Nowitzki's best days are in the rear view, but he's still a very serviceable player, and he closed last season with averages of 14.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in just over 26 minutes per game. Injuries limited him to just 54 games, however, and the Mavs will likely be careful with his workload in 2017-18, which could hinder his fantasy utility.
