Cousins agreed to a contract Tuesday with the Guaynabo Mets of Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

The 32-year-old worked out for the Lakers in early January when Anthony Davis was sidelined with a foot injury, but Cousins never landed a job and remained a free agent over the entire 2022-23 regular season. Per Wojnarowski, Cousins is still hoping to find his way back to the NBA at some point, but it appears the former All-Star will have an uphill battle to make that happen.

Cousins is getting a workout for the team following Cody Zeller auditioning his talents last week. Cousins has struggled to hold a meaningful role in the NBA since tearing his Achilles in 2017-18 and his ACL in 2018-19, leaving him to miss the entire 2019-20 campaign. Since then, he's appeared in 89 games for four teams -- the Rockets, Clippers, Bucks and Nuggets -- averaging 8.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 16.1 minutes. The 32-year-old could help provide some depth while the Lakers remain without Anthony Davis (foot), but fantasy managers shouldn't hold their breath regarding a return to form.

Cousins closed with 19 points (8-12 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds and one steal over 15 minutes during Wednesday's 102-98 loss to Golden State.

EDGE Analysis

Cousins played only 15 minutes in the Game 5 loss but was very productive during his time on the court, finishing as Denver's second-leading scorer and going 8-for-12 from the field. The veteran center registered double-digit points in the final two games of the series and increased his scoring across each of the five contests overall. Cousins emerged as a valuable contributor during his time with Denver despite playing limited minutes, showing that he can still be productive in the league, though he'll likely continue to work as a reserve with whichever team he signs with for next season.

Cousins will start Sunday's game against the Lakers.

With Nikola Jokic among several Nuggets resting, Cousins will move into the lineup at center for only his second start since coming to Denver. In his last start back on March 4, the big man finished with 31 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block in only 24 minutes of action.

Cousins' playing time had fallen off of late -- he logged fewer than 10 minutes in two of his prior three contests heading into Thursday -- and it sunk even further Thursday as he saw only four minutes . Not surprisingly, he wasn't able to do much given the large amount of time spent on the bench, though he incredibly registered a team-worst minus-12 during his brief time on the court. It looks like Cousins won't be much of a factor in the rotation come playoff time, especially with MVP candidate Nikola Jokic likely to play big-time minutes ahead of him.

Cousins posted 12 points (4-11 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), four rebounds and one block in 17 minutes during Sunday's 124-104 loss to the Celtics.

EDGE Analysis

Cousins made the most of his 17-minute cameo with a decent stat line, but the fact that he needed 11 shots just to score 12 points shouldn't be overlooked. The veteran big man is not going to be the player he once was prior to two serious knee injuries, but he holds a decent role off the bench for Denver. He has scored in double digits in each of his last three contests despite not logging more than 20 minutes in neither.

Cousins accumulated 14 points (6-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, three assists and one block in 20 minutes during Wednesday's 127-109 victory over the Wizards.

Cousins led the Denver second unit in field-goal attempts Wednesday, capitalizing on the blowout game script but also symbolizing the healthy role he's carved out in Denver. Cousins has averaged 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 15.5 minutes per game over last five contests.

Cousins provided 13 points (4-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-6 FT), six rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 13 minutes Monday in the Nuggets' 131-124 win over the Warriors.

Since stepping in for ailing MVP candidate Nikola Jokic in Friday's 116-101 win over the Rockets and putting up a massive 31-point performance in 24 minutes, Cousins has predictably settled back into a strict backup role behind a healthy Jokic the past two games. While Jokic has resumed his dominant ways in both games, Cousins struggled mightily in Sunday's win over the Pelicans (one point on 0-for-4 shooting from the field in 10 minutes), but he bounced back in the second half of the back-to-back set. Cousins should remain a strong per-minute producer more often than not, though it'll be tough to rely on him as anything more than a deep-league asset while he's routinely playing under 20 minutes when Jokic is available.

Cousins made his first start since joining the Nuggets and stepped up in the absence of Nikola Jokic (illness). The former Pelicans and Kings big man delivered numbers he hadn't posted consistently since he injured his Achilles a few years ago, but considering his role and the fact that he should head back to the bench as soon as Jokic is available, this should be an outlier rather than the norm going forward.
