Monty Williams benched backup PG Brian Roberts for all but four minutes of Sunday's game.
Roberts had been playing 21 minutes per game in December, and it's not clear why Monty rolled with ineffective veteran Roger Mason Jr. (three points, one assist in 18 minutes) over his more dynamic rookie. This highlights the risk inherent in owning Greivis Vasquez's backup, but the Hornets should lean toward developing young players before much longer, which gives Roberts some upside in deep leagues.

Brian Roberts followed up his 16-point night from Wednesday with nine points and four assists in 19 minutes on Friday.
We mentioned that Roberts' value might be tenuous and here is your example of that. He'll need an injury in front of him to have any real value, but it's encouraging that he has hit the fantasy radar a few times this season.

Brian Roberts came off the bench for 16 points, four assists, two steals and four 3-pointers on 6-of-14 shooting in Wednesday's loss to the Thunder.
Roberts has had some good games this season but his minutes and production will likely stay inconsistent as long as he's not starting. But if you're in a deep league with a bare waiver wire, he might be worth a look as the back up point guard has scored 15 and 16 points in two of his last four games.

Brian Roberts scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting (including a three) with three rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 26 minutes off the bench on Friday against the Grizzlies.
Monty Williams went away from his starters tonight and Roberts was there to clean up the mess. He has shown flashes of utility this season, but one look at his game log will show why owners should make him prove himself before paying much attention.

Brian Roberts logged 19 minutes off the bench on Saturday despite being questionable to play with an unspecified illness.
Roberts scored eight points on 3-of-5 shooting, and remains a non-entity in standard-sized fantasy leagues.

Brian Roberts (illness) is a game-time decision vs. Thunder on Saturday.
The Hornets' backup point guard is averaging 12.3 points over the past three games, but doesn't get enough minutes, or do enough across the board, to warrant fantasy attention in average formats.

Hornets backup PG Brian Roberts took advantage of garbage minutes on Sunday to score 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, with five assists and zero turnovers.
Roberts logged 23 minutes tonight but won't surface with reliable value as long as Greivis Vasquez is healthy.

Brian Roberts received 21 minutes off the bench and had 13 points, two assists and three 3-pointers against the Knicks on Tuesday.
Garbage time was a factor, but Roberts has looked solid in his limited time on the court during the season as well as during the preseason. Even though Greivis Vasquez is struggling shooting the ball, Roberts is not even close to being a threat to start.

Backup PG Brian Roberts surprised on Friday with 16 points and eight assists, hitting 7-of-8 shots (including a three) in 30 minutes off the bench.
Roberts benefited from Greivis Vasquez's struggles tonight, but we doubt Vasquez is going to go 1-for-10 from the field all that much, nor is Roberts going to be nearly perfect. The Hornets aren't a deep team, so theoretically there is room to improve, but barring an unlikely face-plant from Vasquez he's going to have a hard time accumulating real fantasy value.

Hornets guard Brian Roberts is "making a case for minutes," according to coach Monty Williams.
Roberts has been a pleasant surprise this preseason, filling in capably while the Hornets dance around Eric Gordon's absence in the backcourt. His odds of making the team are improving on a daily basis.
