Varejao cleared waivers Sunday, ESPN.com's Chris Haynes reports.

EDGE Analysis

Varejao, who was signed to a one-year deal for the veterans' minimum, wasn't able to attract attention from any teams after the Warriors waived him Friday. That doesn't close the door on Varejao resurfacing at the NBA level, however, as several teams were said to be interested in signing him once he cleared waivers. The aging center will likely look to latch on with a contending team at some point in the coming weeks.

Varejao was waived by the Warriors on Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

Even with Zaza Pachulia (shoulder) expected to be sidelined for at least a week, Varejao wasn't needed to provide much insurance at center, considering the Warriors already had JaVale McGee, Draymond Green, David West and Damian Jones on hand to cover the position. With the 34-year-old deemed an expendable piece, the Warriors will instead add depth at point guard, bringing in the defensive-minded Briante Weber on a 10-day contract. Varejao, who has made just 14 appearances on the season and is averaging 6.6 minutes per game, could sign with another team to provide some energy off the bench in the frontcourt, assuming he goes unclaimed off waivers.

Varejao posted two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 FT), one rebound and one assist across six minutes in a 127-107 loss to the Pistons on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Coach Steve Kerr dusted Varejao off for the veteran's first appearance since Dec. 22, with all of his minutes coming when the outcome was well in hand. Varejao is behind Zaza Pachulia, Draymond Green and JaVale McGee in the pecking order at center, and he's unlikely to enter the rotation unless at least two of those aforementioned players are out with injuries.

Varejao, who started at center in place of Zaza Pachulia (wrist) on Saturday, did not play in Sunday's win over the Timberwolves.

EDGE Analysis

Apparently, Varejao got the start Saturday because Kevon Looney (ankle) had been unavailable. With Looney cleared to play Sunday, he entered the starting lineup while Varejao assumed his usual spot at the end of the Warriors' bench.

Varejao made his first start of the season Saturday, replacing the injured Zaza Pachulia (wrist), and went scoreless (0-2 FG) along with five rebounds, two assists and one steal over 18 minutes in Golden State's 110-89 loss to Memphis.

EDGE Analysis

This was just the seventh game played for Varejao, who had been averaging a mere 5.2 minutes per game prior to Saturday's start. Pachulia's wrist injury, something he played through Thursday, doesn't appear to be significant, so this should be a limited window of increased playing time for Varejao.

Varejao will start at center in Saturday's game against the Grizzlies.

EDGE Analysis

Varejao was a last-minute addition the Warriors' lineup after Zaza Pachulia was a late scratch due to his bruised wrist. Varejao has averaged just 5.2 minutes in six games this season, but he could see a bit more action than usual Saturday with Pachulia unavailable.

Varejao (coach's decision) didn't see the court in Monday's 105-100 win over the Hawks.

EDGE Analysis

Though the Warriors recalled rookie center Damian Jones from the D-League following the conclusion of his rehab from a torn right pectoral, Varejao remained active ahead of Jones, who was joined on the inactive list by James McAdoo. Even if he sticks ahead of Jones on the depth chart for further notice, Varejao won't see the court most nights with coach Steve Kerr frequently utilizing Zaza Pachulia, Draymond Green and JaVale McGee as his primary center options.

Varejao was inactive for Monday night's game against the Pelicans.

EDGE Analysis

With guard Patrick McCaw (ankle) ready to play, the Warriors needed a spot on the active roster. Given the choice of an extra wing or big man, the Warriors chose the wing player, relegating Varejao to watch the game in street clothes.

Varejao was scoreless (0-1 FG) with one rebound, one assist and one steal over five minutes in the Warriors' 122-96 win over the Thunder on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Varejao's run Thursday night was the first time he's played since the Warriors' opening-night loss to the Spurs. We fondly recall his heyday in Cleveland where was a major rotation piece, but since coming to Golden State, Varejao has been a bit player. This season, he's been glued to the end of the bench behind second-year power forward Kevin Looney on the team's depth chart.

Varejao (shoulder) played six minutes in Friday night's preseason game against the Trail Blazers. He went scoreless (0-1 FG) with one rebound, one assist and one blocked shot.

EDGE Analysis

Varejao had missed Golden State's previous preseason game Wednesday against the Lakers. Heading into regular season, Varejao is the second-string center, behind Zaza Pachulia, but we could see third-stringer JaVale McGee pass him on the depth chart. Either way, Golden State doesn't allot many minutes to true centers, so we're not expecting major contributions from Varejao or McGee.
