Davis officially declined his qualifying offer from the Cubs on Thursday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

By electing to forego the one-year, $17.4 million offer, Davis will become a free agent, though the Cubs will receive draft pick compensation if he ends up signing elsewhere. The 32-year-old shouldn't have trouble finding a multi-year deal after his stellar 2017 campaign, during which he converted 32 of his 33 save chances while compiling a 2.30 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 58.2 innings.

Davis received a one-year qualifying offer from the Cubs on Monday, the Chicago Sun Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

Davis is coming off a season where he earned $10.0 million, which makes Monday's offering of $17.4 million from the Cubs pretty enticing. Although, it's possible that Davis could land a more lucrative deal if he elects to forego the offer and enter free agency. The 32-year-old has 10 days to make his decision.

Davis pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing a single hit.

EDGE Analysis

It wasn't a save situation, but the Cubs didn't mess around with a chance to clinch the NL Central. Davis has been used fairly heavily in recent weeks as the team made its playoff push, so look for him to possibly get some rest over the weekend before firing up for the NLDS.

Davis blew his first save of the season in the ninth inning and allowed a walk-off home run in the 10th inning of Saturday's loss to the Brewers.

EDGE Analysis

Davis served up a game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Saturday's contest to move to 32-for-33 in save opportunities this season. He still had a chance to pick up the win after the Cubs scored in the top of the 10th inning, but another home run did him in and gave him his first loss since Aug. 3. Davis threw more than one inning for the first time this season in his previous appearance Thursday and did the same Saturday, so manager Joe Maddon may look to avoid using him for at least the Cubs' next game Sunday.

Davis (4-1) picked up the win in Thursday's game against the Brewers. He pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four.

EDGE Analysis

Davis started off ominously, as he hit the first batter he faced and then allowed a single to the next hitter, which loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning with the game tied 3-3. But he struck out Domingo Santana and got Orlando Arcia to ground out to wiggle out of trouble. He then struck out the side in the 10th to close out the game. This was the first time all season Davis went more than one inning, as manager Joe Maddon has made a point of saying he wants to conserve his star closer. However, in a key divisional game, the Cubs needed a bit more from him. It's unclear if Davis will be available Friday, but with the Cubs looking to secure a playoff spot in the final games of the season, more outings like this are possible for the closer.

Davis struck out the side in order for his 32nd save Tuesday against the Rays.

EDGE Analysis

Having given up just a single run in his last 14 appearances -- a span in which he's netted eight saves -- Davis is running at high efficiency right now. His final numbers won't compare to the insane stats he posted in 2014 and 2015, but they'll still be a tremendous help to fantasy owners.

Davis allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 31st save Sunday against the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

Tasked with protecting a one-run lead, Davis allowed a leadoff single to Tommy Pham before retiring the next three batters. He still hasn't blown a save this season.

Davis pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to earn the save Saturday against the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

Davis was protecting a three-run lead and was able to close the door without an ounce of drama. With 30 saves and an ERA just a shade over two, he's one of the best closer options in the league.

Davis pitched a clean inning in a non-save situation in Sunday's loss to the Brewers. He walked two and struck out one.

EDGE Analysis

Davis hadn't pitched since Wednesday, so manager Joe Maddon found a way to get him some action before an off day Monday. Maddon said recently that he wants to be careful to not overuse his closer down the stretch, but the team doesn't want him sitting too much, either. With a 2.16 ERA and 29 saves so far, Davis should remain an elite fantasy option the rest of the way.

Manager Joe Maddon said he's not likely to use Davis for many saves beyond three outs the rest of the regular season, Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago reports.

EDGE Analysis

"I'm still not ready to do that yet," Maddon said. "If we get to that point, I would talk to him about it. I can't tell you that he's a bad candidate (for it)." Maddon knows Davis well from their time together in Tampa Bay, so he should have a good gauge on what the right-hander can give him. Maddon didn't rule out using Davis for four-out saves in the right situations, but it probably won't happen often.
