Over his last three games, he has a 1:0 K:BB in 2.2 innings while throwing 17 of 23 pitches for strikes. After posting career-best ratios in 2023 (2.31 ERA, 0.99 WHIP) and converting 10 of 12 save chances after taking over the closer role in late August, Scott is still the favorite to handle ninth-inning duties for Miami this season.

If the control issues are a warning sign of a bigger issue, it's not clear who might step into the ninth inning for Miami.

Scott will make $5.7 million in 2024 after winning his arbitration case against the Marlins on Saturday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

After struggling in his first season with the Marlins, Scott had a fantastic 2023, posting a 2.31 ERA and 0.99 WHIP alongside a 104:24 K:BB across 78 innings. Scott's performance earned him an extra $550,000 compared to what the Marlins offered, and he will enter 2024 as the frontrunner for Miami's closer job.

Scott picked up the save Saturday against Pittsburgh, striking out three over 1.1 innings while not allowing any hits or walks.

Scott entered the contest with two outs and two runners on in the bottom of the eighth and was able to get the final out to hold Miami's 6-3 lead. He returned in the ninth and struck out the side to nail down his 12th save of the season as the Marlins clinched their first playoff berth since 2020 with the win. Scott has now converted his last three save opportunities and has struck out the side in two of his last three appearances.

Scott picked up the save in Friday's 4-3 victory over the Pirates. He retired all three batters faced without recording a strikeout.

An error put a runner on base, but Scott easily pitched around that to earn his eighth save of the season. He's converted five straight save chances since a blown save Sept. 1 versus the Nationals. He's also gone 18.2 innings without allowing an earned run, though he gave up two unearned runs in that aforementioned blown save. The 29-year-old has a 2.21 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 93:24 K:BB through 69.1 innings on the year. Given Scott's good performance, he should close the year as Miami's primary closer.
