Newcomb gave up three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four over three innings Saturday in Boston. He did not factor in the decision.

EDGE Analysis

The electric lefty just didn't have it in his first career start in Fenway Park, needing 88 pitches (48 strikes) to get through three frames. Prior to this outing, Newcomb's shortest start of the year was a 4.1-inning April 2 loss to the Nationals. He had given up just one run over 25 innings in his previous four starts, so this rough showing only upped his ERA to 2.75. His next start will likely come Thursday at home against the Nationals. The Braves have taken every opportunity to give him an extra day or two of rest in between outings when possible, but considering they have a doubleheader Monday against the Mets, that seems unlikely to happen this time around.

Newcomb's next start has been pushed to Saturday in Boston, 680 The Fan reports.

EDGE Analysis

He would have lined up to start Friday, but the Braves are taking advantage of an off day Thursday to move Julio Teheran up for Friday's start, giving their young ace six days off between starts. Newcomb is still walking batters at a high clip (11.2 percent), but he has a 0.36 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 24 strikeouts over his last four starts (25 innings). The extra day off should only help him in this interleague road matchup. He logged 157.2 innings across Triple-A and the majors last year, so the Braves are doing everything in their power to help the electric southpaw hold up over a full big-league campaign.

Newcomb (5-1) picked up the win over the Marlins on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings while striking out four.

EDGE Analysis

Although the left-hander's scoreless streak got snapped at 21 innings, Newcomb still recorded his fourth straight quality start and sixth in nine starts on the season. He'll take a sparkling 2.39 ERA into his next outing Friday in Boston.

Newcomb will start Saturday against the Marlins instead of Friday, Matthew DeFranks of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb will get an extra day of rest, as he has between most starts this season. It's a plan that's certainly worked so far this year for the young lefty, as he's recorded a 2.51 ERA through eight starts. Matt Wisler was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett and will take the mound Friday.

Newcomb (4-1) allowed one hit and walked four while striking out six across six scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday against the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb once again battled his control, but it did not come back to haunt him Sunday as he managed to strand four baserunners. He has been successful despite allowing 4.2 BB/9 thanks to his ability to limit the long ball, as he is allowing just .6 HR/9. While metrics such as FIP and xFIP suggest Newcomb is pitching a bit over his head, they also don't suggest that there will be major regression in his performance in the future.

Newcomb (3-1) tossed six scoreless innings while earning the win over the Rays on Tuesday, allowing two hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb pounded the strike zone at a 63 percent clip and induced seven groundball outs while extending his scoreless innings streak to 14. He got just one run of support, but this excellent outing was enough to lift him to his second straight win. Newcomb has rounded into form despite the occasional bumpy outing and now owns a 2.88 ERA to go along with a 1.20 ERA for the season. He'll look to continue his recent dominance Sunday against the Marlins.

Newcomb (2-1) picked up the win over the Mets on Wednesday, scattering two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings while striking out eight.

EDGE Analysis

What looked to be a thrilling pitcher's duel between Newcomb and Jacob deGrom fell apart when deGrom left after four innings with a hyperextended elbow, but the Braves left-hander more than held up his end, throwing 70 of 97 pitches for strikes while generating 16 swinging strikes. Newcomb will take a 3.38 ERA into his next start Tuesday on the road against the Rays.

Newcomb, who had been scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Mets, will instead take the hill for the second contest of the series Wednesday, Grant McAuley of 92-9 The Game Atlanta reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Braves wanted to build in an extra off day this week for Julio Teheran, who is recovering from a back issue, so the team facilitated that by promoting top pitching prospect Mike Soroka from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Tuesday. The move will provide the secondary benefit of giving Newcomb five days' rest between starts after the lefty was tagged for four runs over six innings his last time out against Cincinnati. Newcomb's fantasy owners may not be as pleased, however, as the move back a day in the pitching schedule now denies the 24-year-old of a second start this week Sunday against the Giants at home.

Newcomb allowed four runs on five hits and three walks across six innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Reds. He struck out seven.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb cruised through the first four innings of this one -- allowing just one hit and one walk -- before hitting a snag in the fifth inning. He allowed three of the first four batters he faced to reach base, two via consecutive four-pitch walks, before a Jose Peraza RBI groundout and a Joey Votto three-run homer tied the game up at four. The 24-year-old continues to struggle with command at times, but he still owns a respectable 4.23 ERA and 11.1 K/9 through five starts (27.2 innings). His next start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Mets.

Newcomb (1-1) didn't factor into the decision in Friday's extra-inning loss to the Mets, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks over six innings while striking out five.

EDGE Analysis

It's the left-hander's second quality start in four outings. Newcomb continues to fight his command at times, but he threw 61 of 105 pitches for strikes in this one, and his 11.2 K/9 on the year highlights his upside should everything begin to click for the 24-year-old. He'll next take the mound Wednesday in Cincinnati.
