Marshall (shoulder) will need multiple throwing sessions before he can begin a rehab assignment, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Marshall hasn't pitched since June 10, 2014. Reds manager Bryan Price was bullish on Marshall's chances at beginning a rehab assignment this season saying, " I don't think he's there yet. I don't think he's to the point where batting practice is to the immediate future. But I do believe because of his situation that if we get to the point where he can go out and face hitters, we'll do that. At this point in time, I don't think he's knocking on the door for that."

Marshall (shoulder) is expected to begin throwing again in six weeks, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Marshall underwent a shoulder procedure in mid-May that is expected to keep him on the shelf for the remainder of the 2015 season. The soon-to-be free agent will likely have to showcase for teams to prove he's healthy before getting much attention on the market. At 32 years old and with several noteworthy procedures under his belt, he'll likely have to catch on with a low-risk, team-friendly deal.

Marshall will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair the torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. Shoulder issues have plagued Marshall over the past two years, and he's now slated for a second procedure on his left shoulder. His first, which was performed last June, was to remove unhealthy tissue from the area, and this one to repair the tear will keep Marshall out for the entire 2015 season. The 32-year-old will be a free agent this winter.

Marshall (shoulder) hasn't made good progress on his rehab. This unfortunately is the norm, not the exception when it comes to shoulder injuries with pitchers. Marshall is on the 60-day DL and wasn't expected back soon anyhow, but this report suggests that it will be longer than 60 days.

Marshall (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day disabled list Sunday. Marshall remains months away from a return, as he's yet to progress to a mound. With his placement on the disabled list, he will be unavailable until June, but he'll likely retake a spot in the bullpen upon his return.

Marshall (shoulder) isn't yet close to throwing from a mound. Marshall is dealing with flexibility issues. "He can throw the ball OK," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "He still has a little bit of biceps tendinitis, which isn't of great concern. His evaluation went very well. The feeling is he needs more range of motion. That's consistent with someone who did a lot of work on the shoulder in the offseason. It's strong, but you've got to create the flexibility portion. That's given him some tedious achiness that we'd like to get out of there."

Marshall (shoulder) has resumed throwing from flat ground after being shut down at the beginning of spring training. There's no timetable yet for when Marshall will throw from a mound, let alone when he'll be ready for game action. "It's a hard one to answer," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "What we're trying to do is get him to where he is completely pain free. He's been a little bit achy but nothing that would prevent him from throwing. It's a part of the process."

Marshall has inflammation in his pitching shoulder and has been shut down in his throwing program. "I was probably a couple of weeks from finishing my throwing program before I got out here," Marshall said. "I repeated my long-toss part every day and I started getting some cuff inflammation. I got here and noticed it, and they slowed me down a little bit until I was 100 percent healthy before advancing to flat ground and mound work. They kind of shut me down. I'm doing more stability stuff and my shoulder feels great the last couple of days. I am just waiting for the green light to resume my long-toss program."Marshall is questionable at best for Opening Day. The Reds are just hoping that they get some healthy portion of the season. Opening Day is a goal, but isn't a finishing point.

Marshall (shoulder) might not be ready to return by Opening Day. "We've slowed down his throwing to make sure everything is OK," manager Bryan Price said. "We hope that's to pick up here in the next couple of days."Marshall has been able to appear in only 31 games the last two seasons. Given the nature of the injury, anything that the Reds can get out of him has to be considered a bonus.

Marshall recently told MLB.com that he is progressing in his recovery from shoulder surgery. "My therapy is going great," Marshall said Sept. 23. "It really is. My strength is there. I still have a little range of motion work that I've been doing, but every day is better. I definitely feel like I have a new shoulder, so it's good and strong." Shoulder issues have plagued Marshall's tenure with the Reds, limiting him to just 31 appearances over the past two seasons. He underwent surgery June 24 to repair a torn labrum and appears on track to begin a throwing program in early-to-mid November, with the hope being that he'll be 100 percent for spring training. His return would be a big boost to a bullpen that relied heavily on just two lefties in 2014, Manny Parra and Aroldis Chapman.
