Porcello confirmed Monday during his appearance on "The Bradfo Sho" podcast that he has retired from professional baseball.
EDGE Analysis
Given that the 33-year-old didn't sign with a team following the 2020 season, Porcello's decision to confirm his retirement hardly comes as a surprise. Though Porcello's career ended on a down note with a 5.64 ERA over 12 starts for the Mets in the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, the right-hander was a solid mid-rotation arm for the majority of his 12 years in the big leagues. He enjoyed his best season in 2016 with the Red Sox, as Porcello claimed the American League Cy Young Award that season after leading the circuit in wins (22) while posting a 3.15 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 223 innings. Across stops with the Tigers, Red Sox and the Mets, Porcello accrued a lifetime 150-125 record, 4.40 ERA and 1,561 strikeouts over 2096.1 innings.

Porcello (1-7) took the loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk over three innings as the Mets fell 5-3. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander has had a miserable season in New York, posting a career-worst 5.64 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 59 innings with a 54:15 K:BB. Given that he is on a one-year contract, it seems unlikely he'll be back with the Mets in 2021.

Porcello will start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello was unable to start Friday after the game was rained out, but he'll make his final start of the regular season during Saturday's nightcap with Jacob deGrom starting Game 1. Porcello posted a season-high 10 strikeouts in his last start but was charged with an unlucky loss.

Porcello's scheduled start Friday against the Nationals has been rained out.
EDGE Analysis
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday. Porcello will likely start one of those two games.

Porcello (1-6) allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings as he was charged with the loss Sunday against Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello had one of his best starts of the year Sunday as he logged a season-high 10 strikeouts and only allowed a single run in the sixth inning. However, the Mets didn't provide any run support, and the bullpen struggled late in the contest. The 31-year-old now has a 5.46 ERA and 51:14 K:BB over 56 innings this year. His final start of the regular season should come on the road Friday against the Nationals.

Porcello (1-5) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over six innings as the Mets were downed 4-1 by the Phillies. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander remains winless over his last seven starts, although much of that is due to bad luck and minimal run support -- Porcello's only served up three homers in 49 innings this season, and his .390 BABIP has led to a 6.06 ERA and 1.53 WHIP, but only a 3.11 FIP. He'll look for a better result in his next outing Sunday, at home against Atlanta.

Porcello allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out three across four innings of work Wednesday. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
It seemed as though the Orioles were hitting almost anything Porcello was throwing at them. He gave up two runs on four hits in the first inning and then allowed three more runs off back-to-back hits (double and then a single) in the third. The 32-year-old fortunately was able to get through a clean fourth before manager Luis Rojas threw in the towel and called upon his bullpen to finish out the game. Wednesday was the second time this season Porcello has given up 10 hits in an outing as the right-hander is currently sporting a career-worst 6.07 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 43 innings.

Porcello didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Phillies, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The 32-year-old needed exactly 100 pitches (65 strikes) to deliver his third quality start of the season, but he exited the game with the score tied 2-2 and had to watch as Jared Hughes gave the game away in the seventh and eighth. Porcello has done an excellent job of keeping the ball down and in the park this year -- his 0.46 HR/9 would be a career low -- but a .366 BABIP has saddled him with a 5.54 ERA that's almost double his 2.95 FIP. He'll look for better luck in his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Orioles.

Porcello allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings in Sunday's Game 1 loss to the Yankees. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Although Porcello let up two runs over his five innings, he appeared to be in good shape when he left the game as the Mets held a 4-2 lead. The team scored three more runs in the sixth inning, but the bullpen imploded in the seventh inning, which forced Porcello to settle for a no-decision. The right-hander was coming off three consecutive losses and now carries a 6.00 ERA over 33 innings this season. He'll attempt to return to the win column at home Friday against the Phillies.

Porcello (1-4) took the loss in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Marlins after allowing four runs on five hits over three innings. He had four strikeouts and zero walks.
EDGE Analysis
The 31-year-old's outing was interrupted by a rain delay, but he may not have pitched much longer regardless given how the first three innings transpired. Porcello has a 6.43 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 26:6 K:BB through 28 innings, and he could start Sunday against the Yankees, depending how the Mets organized the rotation coming out of the twin bill.
