Baltimore Orioles third baseman Pedro Alvarez has cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. He was designated for assignment earlier in the week and is now off the Orioles 40-man roster. Alvarez hit eight home runs and knocked in 18 runs, but hit just .180 before being demoted. He belongs on the waiver wire in all leagues, especially now that he's not even on the 40-man roster.
6 months agoPedro Alvarez Designated For Assignment rotoballer.com
Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Pedro Alvarez was designated for assignment on Tuesday and catcher Caleb Joseph was called up in his stead. Alvarez was in the midst of his worst season to date, hitting a paltry .180 with eight homers and 18 RBI while almost exclusively facing right-handed pitching. Alvarez will likely get a chance to latch on somewhere in the minors, but his days as a contributor to a major league time might be numbered.
7 months agoPedro Alvarez Leaves Game Thursday with Hamstring Cramping rotoballer.com
MASNSports Orioles writer Rich Kubatko reports that third baseman/designated hitter Pedro Alvarez left Thursday's game due to hamstring cramping. Alvarez was 0-for-2 with a run scored in the game before he was pinch hit for by Anthony Santander in the fifth inning. It doesn't appear that this will affect Alvarez for very long, but fantasy owners might not want to be patient with the 31-year-old, who is hitting .095 with one home run, seven strikeouts and a .374 OPS over 21 plate appearances in M[...]

Both of those hits were of the trot-around-the-bases variety and they were his fifth and sixth of the season. He's quietly starting off the season on a 30-homer pace. It's unknown if he's going to be able to sustain it, but he could be worth grabbing in a deeper league.
