Mike Olt launched a two-run homer in Tuesday's Cactus League loss to the White Sox. Olt's longball came off of Santos Rodriguez in the fifth inning. The youngster made his second error of the spring in the field, but it's not anything to worry about, as he's viewed as a plus defender at the hot corner. It's possible Olt will earn an Opening Day bench spot, but he's probably better off playing every day at Triple-A.

The Rangers plan to give Mike Olt the majority of his work at third base and right field in spring training. Olt likely won't see much playing time behind Adrian Beltre, but he'll be used as insurance in right field for Nelson Cruz, who is among the group of players connected to PEDs and Biogenesis. The Rangers' top prospect behind Jurickson Profar, Olt he remains largely unproven at the major league level, and won't be guaranteed a bench spot going into the season.

Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Diamondbacks are interested in Mike Olt, and that he would be an integral part if they were to deal Justin Upton to the Rangers. The Diamondbacks seem increasingly likely to deal Upton in the coming weeks, and the Rangers have no spot for Olt after their signing of Lance Berkman. There will surely have to be other pieces involved on the Rangers end, perhaps Martin Perez, to make the deal work, but this seems feasible on both ends.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, Mike Olt's roster spot is in jeopardy following the Rangers' signing of Lance Berkman. Olt doesn't have a clear path to playing time behind Adrian Beltre, and could end up at Triple-A Round Rock if he doesn't stick as platoon option behind Berkman and Mitch Moreland. The Rangers are also considering shopping Olt to acquire another outfielder, and have offered him in trade talks with the Diamondbacks for Justin Upton. After struggling with injuries during his brief callup last season, Olt remains largely unproven at the major league level. He won't be guaranteed a bench spot going into spring training.

ESPN's Buster Olney was told by rival executives that the Rangers are "very open" to trading Mike Olt. With the Rangers losing out on Zack Greinke, there's a pretty good chance they'll wind up using Olt in a package for rotation help. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News has reported that the Mets turned down an offer of Olt for R.A. Dickey. Olt would make sense for the Rays in a package for James Shields.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he has received many trade inquiries on Mike Olt, but is not motivated to move him. The perception is that Olt is blocked at third base by Adrian Beltre, but the Rangers still view him as an important part of their future with Nelson Cruz, Michael Young and David Murphy all set to become free agents following the 2013 season. The 24-year-old batted .152 (5-for-33) in his first cup of coffee in the big leagues this past season and dealt with a nagging foot injury down the stretch.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Rangers offered Mike Olt to the Braves for Andrelton Simmons. The Rangers are reluctant to trade Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar to the Diamondbacks for Justin Upton, so they attempted to acquire Simmons and flip him to Arizona. However, the Braves weren't interested. The Diamondbacks want Simmons, so the Braves could have a match for Upton if they wanted, but they are expected to keep their young shortstop.

Mike Olt will receive a couple more days off after being hit in the head by a pitch during the Dominican Winter league last Saturday. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels insists that the move is just precautionary. Olt, whose season ended prematurely due to a foot injury, is batting .286 with a home run over 10 games with Licey.

The Rangers don't expect Mike Olt (foot) to be 100 percent until spring training next season.

Mike Olt (foot) failed to reach base during a pinch-hitting appearance Sunday against the Angels. It was Olt's first taste of action since September 12. The youngster is battling plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
