Giolito allowed one walk and struck out two over three innings in Sunday's spring game against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito looked regular-season ready in retiring the Rockies. Chicago's presumptive Opening Day starter made his second Cactus League start and has allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out six in five innings. After throwing mostly fastballs during his first outing that he described as getting acclimated to facing hitters, Giolito largely worked on his breaking stuff Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Giolito allowed one run on one hit while striking out four over two innings in Tuesday's spring game against the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito made his spring debut Tuesday and navigated around a Ronald Guzman home run in what he deemed was a successful first start. "The focus was just getting acclimated again with game speed," Giolito told Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun Times. "Being able to control my breathing, control the pace of the game, those were my main focuses. I feel like I did pretty well." The White Sox's projected Opening Day starter struck out Joey Gallo, Khris Davis and Nick Solak consecutively over the first and second innings, including coming back from a 3-0 count on Davis. Giolito said he feels he's right where he needs to be at this point.

EDGE Analysis
New manager Tony La Russa got a look at Giolito and came away impressed. "The sharpness, because he has worked really hard to get here," La Russa said of what stood out. "And you can see the connection he has with [pitching coach] Ethan [Katz]." The right-hander will fit somewhere in the top three of what should be one of the better trios in MLB. Giolito, Dallas Keuchel and Lance Lynn sit atop a deep rotation.

Giolito and new White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz worked together in Los Angeles last week, Scott Merkin of the White Sox's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Katz was hired during the offseason to replace long-time pitching coach Don Cooper, but he's not new to Giolito. The two have worked together during offseasons since the right-hander was in high school. Their work last week focused on refinement of Giolito's high fastball and the addition of a 12-6 curveball, referred to as a "downer" by the pitcher. "It comes out of my hand almost like a slider variant. It's hard to give it a real true name like curveball or slider. But the whole idea of it is it comes out on my fastball plane and then just goes down kind of later, whereas my slider is a little more right to left with that downward action. This one is more like out of the hand fastball plane, straight down late," said Giolito. He has thrown six or seven bullpen sessions during the offseason in preparation to build his innings count from the 72.1 he threw during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Giolito and the White Sox avoided arbitration Friday by coming to terms on a one-year, $4.15 million deal, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Giolilto's 2020 season served as an excellent follow-up to his breakout 2019 campaign, with his ERA rising negligibly from 3.41 to 3.48. His walk rate did rise slightly from 8.1 percent to 9.7 percent, but that came with an increase in his strikeout rate from 32.3 percent to 33.7 percent and a jump in groundball rate from 36.0 percent to 41.3 percent.

Giolito earned the win Tuesday against the A's in the first game of the AL Wild Card Series. He allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out eight over seven scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
This can probably be considered Giolito's final ascent to true acedom. He was perfect through six innings, and as Rick Morrissey of the Chicago Sun-Times notes, Giolito leaned heavily on his slider (26 sliders), more than he had in any prior start this season. Giolito will start Game 1 of the Division Series should the White Sox advance.

Giolito (4-3) allowed three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings in a loss to the Twins on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Unfortunately for Giolito, two of the three hits he allowed left the yard. He gave up a solo shot to Eddie Rosario in the second inning and a two-run blast to Byron Buxton in the fourth. Meanwhile, the White Sox offense mustered just two hits all game. Giolito has a solid 3.53 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 86 strikeouts across 66.1 innings this season. He'll look to get back on track Monday in Cleveland.
