Kendrick allowed two runs on eight hits with no walks and struck out six over six innings in Saturday's game against Philadelphia.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick had a track on a possible spot in Boston's first rotation of the regular season, but Drew Pomeranz's healthy outing Friday appears to put that spot out of Kendrick's reach. However, the right-hander's 2.17 spring ERA makes him the next viable option should any Boston starter miss time early in the season. Kendrick doesn't have an opt out until June 15, so he'll be kicking around at Triple-A Pawtucket while awaiting a promotion.

Kendrick allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings Monday.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick has been the surprise of training camp and is in a position to open the season as part of Boston's rotation if Drew Pomeranz (triceps) is not ready to go when camp breaks. Pomeranz is expected to pitch Friday, but he may not have enough time to build up his pitch count. Kendrick, a non-roster invitee, will be around even if he has to begin the season in the minors. He doesn't have an opportunity to opt out of his contract until June 15.

Kendrick will start Monday's Grapefruit League game against Baltimore, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick's 1.50 ERA in 18 spring innings (16 strikeouts) has grabbed some headlines in light of recent injuries to David Price (elbow) and Drew Pomeranz (triceps). His start Monday is being viewed as an audition for a rotation spot Opening Day. If the Red Sox are thinking at all about having both Price and Pomeranz begin April on the disabled list, Kendrick's is the clear choice. He's far out-pitched any other possible candidate (Henry Owens, Brian Johnson, Roenis Elias) and would need an injury not to be the first to move into the rotation.

Kendrick allowed three hits without a walk while striking out six over five scoreless innings in Wednesday's game against Tampa Bay.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick continues to wow the Red Sox, posting a 1.50 ERA over 18 innings in five spring outings (four starts). From out of nowhere, he's moved to the top of the heap if/when Boston requires a depth starter this year.

Kendrick worked around four hits and two walks to pitch four scoreless innings Friday against Baltimore.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick, who didn't pitch in the majors in 2016, has emerged as the leading depth-starter for Boston. In four appearances, the 32-year-old right-hander has allowed three earned runs on nine hits and three walks over 13 innings. The other depth-starter candidates have been saddled by performance issues (Henry Owens, Brian Johnson) or health (Roenis Elias, rib).

Kendrick tossed four scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one in Sunday's game against Atlanta.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick did what he does best, throwing his tumbling two-seamer to induce eight groundouts, and he needed just 46 pitches. The Braves didn't bring their best to the game, so we're not reading too much into the results, but in terms of where Kendrick fits among Boston's other depth starters, this performance moved him to the top of the pack.

Kendrick will start Sunday in place of the injured David Price (strained elbow), Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

The non-rostered Kendrick is expected to start the season at Triple-A Pawtucket, but could work his way up to the majors should the Red Sox require a fill-in starter.

Kendrick signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick was knocked around to the tune of a 6.32 ERA in 27 starts for the Rockies in 2015 and then failed to crack the Angels' roster at any point last year (4.72 ERA, 1.29 WHIP at Triple-A Salt Lake). Chances are, Kendrick will once again serve as depth in the minors. Perhaps he will get a look with the big club eventually, but it would probably be as a long reliever and only if the bullpen is severely taxed and the Red Sox need someone to eat innings.

Kendrick finalized a minor-league contract with the Angels on Sunday, Taylor Ward of InsideTheHalos.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Kendrick and his agent had been working on a deal with the Angels for a little over three weeks, and it looks as though the 31-year-old has agreed to pay his dues in the minors before potentially getting added to the 40-man roster. While Kendrick has been a reliable back-end starter for much of his career, he was a disaster with the Rockies last season, serving up 33 homers en route to an ugly 6.32 ERA over 142.1 innings.

Kendrick is finalizing a deal with the Angels, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran starter was released by the Braves earlier in the month, but he is on the verge of already finding a new home. The Angels are a bit thin at the starting pitcher position with both CJ Wilson and Tyler Skaggs expected to miss the start of the season, so the deal makes some sense in that respect. That being said, Kendrick struggled significantly this spring and hasn't pitched all that well in recent years, so his role will likely be limited.
