Molina will undergo a knee surgery that will keep him sidelined for a "long, indefinite period," Fox Sports' Jon Morosi reports. A free agent defensive specialist with a 30-grade hit tool was never going to be on many fantasy radars, but this definitely allows people in super deep leagues to ignore Molina for 2015.

Molina was placed on release waivers Monday, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The move is the last step for Molinaw, who was DFA'd last week, before he becomes a free agent. The 39-year-old is unlikely to be claimed off release waivers by Wednesday and will be in the market for a new team. If he does go unclaimed, the Rays will be responsible for his $2.75 million salary for the 2015 season.

The Rays will designate Molina for assignment Thursday prior to the Rule 5 roster deadline, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Molina, 39, was so atrocious with the bat last season (.417 OPS) that it easily negated his value as a pitch framer and defender behind the plate. The Rays will still have 10 days to try to find a trade partner for Molina, but if nothing materializes, they will be forced to eat his entire $2.75 million salary for 2015.

Molina is out of the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Molina, who had been dealing with a sore knee in recent days, returned to the lineup Saturday after a three-game absence, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. It's possible Molina's still not completely healthy yet, which could result in him splitting time at the catcher spot with Curt Casali until Ryan Hanigan returns from the DL.

Molina is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs, MLB.com's Bill Chastain reports. Molina appears to be splitting catcher duties Curt Casali at this point, as he has started just three of the past seven games behind the plate. He is out again Sunday, with Casali starting in his place and batting seventh for the Rays.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays don't yet have Jose Molina's physical results and will postpone the announcement of Molina's contract to next week. The announcement was expected Tuesday or Wednesday, but the Rays will go ahead and push back the ceremony until after Thanksgiving weekend. Molina will officially re-sign with Tampa Bay on a two-year, $4.5 million deal at that time.

Jose Molina will take a physical Tuesday and his new two-year contract with the Rays will be made official either later that day or on Wednesday, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman first reported on Sunday that Molina had re-signed with Tampa Bay on a two-year, $4.5 million deal. The 38-year-old should be kept miles from a fantasy roster -- he's slashed .228/.288/.328 over the past two years in Tampa -- but is a valuable real-life player due to his defensive acumen and lauded pitch framing ability.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Jose Molina has re-signed with the Rays on a two-year, $4.5 million deal. Molina made $1.5 million each of the last two seasons, so he gets a bit of a raise. The 38-year-old is a virtually zero at the plate, batting just .228/.288/.328 during his two years in Tampa. The Rays value him for his game calling and pitch framing, though. He figures to split time with Jose Lobaton in 2014.
