Alvarado was recalled from Double-A Montgomery on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to the 21-year-old's callup, the Rays were rolling without a left-hander in their bullpen. Alvarado will fill that void as he heads to the majors Wednesday, looking to take the 2.38 ERA and 11.4 K/9 he posted in 11.1 innings with the Biscuits into his big-league debut.

Alvarado is expected to be recalled by the Rays on Wednesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team has yet to formally announce the move, but Alvarado is reportedly en route to Tampa Bay. Alvarado, 21, has posted impressive numbers through nine appearances with Double-A Montgomery this season (2.38 ERA, 0.79 WHIP), holding same-handed hitters to a .125 average in the small sample. He will become the lone lefty in the Rays' bullpen.

Alvarado was optioned to the minors Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
After wrapping up a stint with Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, Alvarado will now head to minors camp for the remainder of the spring, as he was never under any serious consideration for an Opening Day gig with the Rays. The lefty reliever is expected to open 2017 with High-A Charlotte or Double-A Montgomery.

Alvarado will join Team Venezuela in the WBC, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Assuming Alvarado ends up actually getting some innings on the mound, the WBC should be a great opportunity for the Tampa Bay prospect to get some valuable experience against big-league competition. The 21-year-old right-hander has shown potential as a hard thrower, but will likely spend this season in the minors continuing to develop and refine his skill set.
