Despite how well he is pitching, he is unlikely to see many save opportunities moving forward with both Corey Knebel and Josh Hader healthy and equally as effective, but he is still helping fantasy owners in the ratio categories -- he now owns a 0.35 ERA and 0.70 WHIP over 25.2 total innings in 2018 -- and is an excellent insurance policy for the previously mentioned relievers.

Jeffress was unavailable during Tuesday's game due to neck stiffness, but the right-hander will be ready out of the bullpen during Wednesday's series finale if called upon. Over 22 appearances this season, Jeffress has logged a 0.40 ERA and 0.72 WHIP with a 20:7 K:BB across 22.1 innings.

Jeffress isn't expected to be in the mix for saves going forward after the Brewers activated Corey Knebel (hamstring) from the 10-day disabled list Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Since Knebel hasn't pitched for the Brewers in more than a month, it's possible that manager Craig Counsell eases the closer back in with a lower-leverage appearance or two, but in any event, it won't be long before the hard-throwing righty reclaims control of the ninth inning. Exclusively a fastball/curveball pitcher for most of his career, Jeffress sought the addition of another off-speed offering to his arsenal after re-signing with Milwaukee this winter, ultimately opting to implement the split changeup teammate Junior Guerra relied heavily on during a breakout 2016 campaign. At five miles per hour slower than his fastball, Jeffress' split changeup -- which he has used 21.6 percent of the time -- has excelled at keeping hitters off balance and has usurped his curveball (19.4 percent) as his top secondary pitch. The three-pitch arsenal hasn't resulted in an uptick in Jeffress' strikeout production, but his 61.7 percent groundball rate and 2.4 BB/9 are his best marks for any season he has pitched at least 15 innings. Avoiding free passes and keeping the ball out of the air are essential for most pitchers to enjoy sustained excellence at Miller Park, which has consistently ranked as a top-10 venue in baseball over the past decade in terms of inflating home-run production.

Josh Hader was unavailable for this one after doing some heavy lifting last night, leaving Jeffress to step into a multi-inning, high-leverage role. He retired the final two batters of the eighth inning after the hosts pulled to within one and recorded a one-two-three ninth to close it out. Jeffress has posted a stellar 0.57 ERA this season, but with Hader in the picture and Corey Knebel (hamstring) set to return soon, save opportunities should be few and far between.
