Jeremy Jeffress has won a spot in the Blue Jays' bullpen. Jeffress, who is out of options, has posted a 2.53 ERA and 6/9 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings this spring. While the 26-year-old still has issues with wildness, he has a huge arm and the Blue Jays aren't about to give up on him.

Jeremy Jeffress pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings out of the pen Friday against the Rays. Jeffress has walked nine in 9 2/3 innings this spring, but he has a 2.79 ERA anyway. Since he's out of options, there's really no doubt that he'll hold on to his spot in the Blue Jays bullpen.

It was Passan who reported the Jays were thinking about making Jeffress a starter back in November, but they've since changed their minds. The 26-year-old showed why in a September stint with the club last season, posting an 0.87 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 10 1/3 innings as a reliever. The right-hander will have to earn a spot in the Jays' bullpen this spring.

Jeffress hasn't started since 2011 in the minors, and he hasn't started on a full-time basis since 2009. He had big-time control problems as a starter and has still been prone to wildness as a reliever, so the transition might be a difficult one. Jeffress is coming off a nice season, having posted a 1.39 ERA at Triple-A and a 0.87 mark in his brief time in the majors while striking out a batter per inning.
