Jeffress, pitching in the setup role Sunday for the first time this season, gave up a game-tying home run in the eighth inning of Sunday's victory over the Diamondbacks. Jeffress and Jonathan Broxton traded places Sunday with Broxton working the seventh inning and Jeffress working the eighth, and each mimicked what has been the norm for the other this season, as Broxton pitched a scoreless frame before Jeffress gave up the lead. While it's not certain that the role change is permanent moving forward, it seems likely that Jeffress will get another chance in the eighth inning with the game on the line.

Jeffress appeared in his league-leading 19th game Monday and recorded his second hold of the season. Jeffress has been particularly active of late, pitching seven times in the first 11 days of May. He has held up well, giving up just two earned runs in 6.1 innings (2.84 ERA) this month and six earned runs in 17 innings (3.18 ERA) overall. Despite the quality results, expect him to continue pitching in middle relief for the Brewers.

Jeffress owns a 2.45 ERA and 5:5 K:BB ratio in 7.1 innings over eight appearances out of the Brewers' bullpen. Jeffress was a darkhorse closer candidate early this spring, but with Francisco Rodriguez back on the roster, he is working in a middle relief role for the Brewers. Jeffress has not been particularly sharp early in the season, but he has been able to limit the damage.

Jeffress has given up two earned runs (2.35 ERA) while posting a 6:5 K:BB ratio in 7.2 innings over six appearances this spring. Jeffress has pitched well this spring, and even better of late, giving up just two walks and no hits over his last four innings. It's unlikely he will open the season with a prominent role in the Brewers' bullpen, but he is essentially a lock to make the team, and should be a factor in the middle relief mix.

Scott MacArthur of TSN Radio Network reports that at least three teams, including the Cardinals, Brewers and White Sox, have shown interest in Jeremy Jeffress. Jeffress elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays earlier this month. While he has a career 4.47 ERA over 52 1/3 frames at the big league level, Jeffress has struck out 50, has a fastball that touches the upper 90s and won't turn 27 until September. It's no surprise that there are some clubs apparently willing to take a shot on him.

Jeremy Jeffress elected free agency. Jeffress passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this month, but he has decided to look for an opportunity elsewhere rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A. The 26-year-old has struggled with his control, but someone will surely take a chance on his big arm.
