Jeffress (hamstring) will throw one more live batting practice session and then he will be slotted into game action, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports.
EDGE Analysis
His live batting practice session went really well Saturday, and now it sounds like Jeffress could get into a game sometime next week. This will give him enough time to get ready for the start of the season, although he may face an uphill battle with Will Smith to open the year as the team's closer.

Jeffress (hamstring) said live batting practice went well Saturday, although he is unsure of the next step in his recovery, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports.
EDGE Analysis
There is still plenty of time for Jeffress to get ready for the start of the season, although it would be nice for him to get into a game early next week. His main competition for the ninth inning, Will Smith, has allowed one hit and no walks while striking out two over three shutout innings this spring, so Jeffress may be a little behind the eight ball.

Jeffress (hamstring) expects to throw another bullpen session Thursday, then face hitters a few days after that, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite the injury, Jeffress remains in the competition for the closer role, and it sounds like he should get back on the mound in time to make an impression on the decision makers. Given where they are at in terms of team control and big league success, it makes some sense to give Will Smith the closer job and try to flip him at the trade deadline, at which point Jeffress would have a chance to step in. However, Smith's left-handedness leads others to believe Jeffress may have the inside track on breaking camp with the job. We will continue to update his health status and prospective owners should keep an eye on his spring performance when he returns to game action.

Jeffress (hamstring) had a bullpen session Tuesday that reportedly "went very well", Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jeffress has been hampered by this hamstring injury since the end of February, but seems to be progressing well. There is no timetable set for his return, but manager Craig Counsell did say that he'll throw another bullpen session before the Brewers decide on the next step for the right-hander.

Jeffress (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Monday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jeffress has been sidelined since injuring his hamstring in late February, but it appears he has recovered to the point where he can get back on the mound. His preparation for the regular season will be back on track if he can get through Monday's outing without setback.

Manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Jeffress (hamstring strain) is progressing well in his recovery but did not provide a timetable for a return, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jeffress tweaked his hamstring over the weekend and the team has since opted to hold him out of bullpen sessions for the time being. He is still expected to miss the Brewers' first few exhibition games, but Counsell's comments Tuesday suggest that the team is merely being cautious with him at this point.

Jeffress could be held out of the Brewers' first few exhibition games while he recovers from a mild hamstring strain, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jeffress' setback does not appear serious, but it sounds like manager Craig Counsell is planning to take it easy with Jeffress' usage early this spring. While Jeffress could miss a few spring training games, he should still have plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day barring any setbacks, He is on track to be the Brewers' top right-handed reliever, but it remains to be seen if he will open the season as the Brewers' closer, part-time closer, or primary setup man.

Jeffress suffered a minor hamstring strain and will be backed off from throwing bullpens for a while, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
From the way it sounds, the injury is not overly serious. However, if it does linger throughout camp, it could affect his chances of garnering the closer role for Milwaukee. Jeffress is currently competing with Will Smith for the job, so this situation with his hamstring is worth monitoring as spring training goes on.

Jeffress will be in competition with Will Smith during spring training to determine the team's closer for Opening Day, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
After finding a home back with the Brewers late in 2014, Jeffress impressed in his first full MLB season, finishing with a 2.65 ERA and 1.27 WHIP while punching out 67 over 68 frames. The 28-year-old doesn't have any major league saves over the course of his career, and has little experience in the minors as well, but he'll get a shot to add that to his resume if he can earn the job out of spring training. However, Jeffress' upside could be limited by the fact that the Brewers are expected to be among the league's worst teams in 2016.

Jeffress tossed a pair of scoreless innings Friday night to earn a win in relief against the Twins.
He's become the preferred setup option to closer Francisco Rodriguez, who would have pitched the ninth on Friday night if the Brewers had not opened a five-run lead in the top of the frame. Jeffress through 29 pitches in Friday's game, and his availability for Saturday may be in doubt as a result.
