Weeks (knee) is expected to miss the remainder of spring training, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
A non-roster invitee to major league camp, Weeks was in the mix for the final bench spot before he went down with the knee injury Monday. He has been diagnosed with a sprained ACL and a bone bruise in his left leg, injuries which typically require four weeks for a full recovery. Weeks played in 17 games with the Padres last season, slashing .140/.204/.200 in 57 plate appearances.

Weeks hyperextended his left knee during Monday's collision and is considered day-to-day, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was able to walk off the field slowly after suffering the injury, but may need to miss a few days. Weeks will serve as organizational infield depth, likely spending most, if not the whole season at Triple-A.

Weeks left the game after he injured himself jumping to catch a throw down, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was able to walk off the field slowly, but otherwise the severity of the injury is not yet known. Although he was already a long shot to make the Cubs' deep roster, this certainly doesn't help Weeks. The team hasn't anything on the injury, but more should be known after the game.

Weeks has signed a minor league deal with the Cubs, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The versatile Weeks hit free agency at the end of the season after refusing an outright assignment to the Padres' Triple-A affiliate. After roughly two months, Weeks has found a new club as he inked a minor league deal with the Cubs this week. Weeks is a career .254/.316/.352 hitter with 41 stolen bases over parts of six major league seasons. He provides some organizational depth at a few different spots, but Chicago's roster is currently too deep to where Weeks has a clear path to making the major league roster.

Weeks became a free agent after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A El Paso, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
He played in 17 games for the Padres in 2016, spending a significant portion of the season on the DL with a hamstring injury. Weeks posted a .306/.405/.500 line in 10 games at Triple-A, and he'll likely end up in a competition for a roster spot elsewhere with a minor league deal this winter.

Weeks (hamstring) began a rehab assignment with the Padres' Arizona League affiliate Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Weeks has been out since May with a right hamstring strain, but finally seems to be on the road to recovery. There is no clear timetable at this point, but a return to the majors this season isn't out of the question.

Weeks was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Weeks was transferred in a corresponding move to the team claiming relief pitcher Jake Smith off waivers from the Giants on Wednesday. The second baseman has been out since early May with a hamstring injury, and has suffered a couple setbacks delaying his return to the club. Weeks could be rejoining the team after the All-Star Break, but will need to get through some rehab games first.

Weeks (hamstring) could potentially need surgery done, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weeks has not been progressing as expected, and is considering getting a cortisone shot. Surgery could become an option if he continues to not see any improvement. In the meantime, Jose Pirela should continue seeing the majority of playing time at second base.

Weeks' (hamstring) second MRI revealed a hamstring strain, A.J. Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weeks was forced to get another MRI after the results of the first were inconclusive, but this one did not bring the news he was hoping to hear. The second baseman will be re-evaluated in two-to-three weeks to see how his hamstring has healed, but he'll stay on the shelf until that time comes. In the meantime, Jose Pirela will probably see most of the playing time at second base.
