Wieters is dealing with elbow tendinitis and will refrain from catching duties for a week, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports. Wieters could serve as the designated hitter as early as Sunday, but manager Buck Showalter indicated he doesn't think the issue will keep him from Opening Day. If it does prevent him from catching, however, he's not expected to serve as the designated hitter, meaning he could begin the season on the disabled list if the issue extends into the regular season.
