Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle confirms that the Athletics are engaged in "ongoing" talks with the Marlins about a possible trade for shortstop Yunel Escobar.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported Monday that the Rays are in the mix while Jon Heyman of CBS Sports hears that the Yankees and Cubs have also checked in. Escobar, who was acquired from the Blue Jays last month, is owed a very reasonable $5 million in 2013 and has $5 million club options for 2014 and 2015. However, his value is at its nadir after he batted just .253/.300/.344 in 2012 and was suspended for displaying a homophobic slur on his eye black.
