Sale (0-1) threw 7.2 innings of two-run ball in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Tigers, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Sale was excellent in this one but was done in by a solo home run by Ian Kinsler in the sixth and a Nick Castellanos single in the eighth, as Justin Verlander was equally dominant on the other end. The Red Sox gave up a king's ransom for the left in the offseason, but he has looked terrific in his first two starts and now carries a 1.23 ERA and a 17:2 K:BB through 14.2 innings in 2017. He has received just one run of support thus far, but it is only a matter of time before the talented Boston offense begins to pick him up with regularity. He will next face the Rays at home on Saturday.
