Rea (elbow) will need to undergo Tommy John surgery, and is expected to miss the entire 2017 season as a result, Bill Center of Padres.com reports.

This is an unfortunate break for Rea who was just traded to the Marlins. He only managed one start with the club. He posted a 4.98 ERA with the Padres in 18 starts prior to the trade. Rea will be 28 at the start of the 2018 season.
