The veteran infielder hasn't been right since the regular season began and is finding playing time harder to come by due to the success of Jedd Gyorko at third base. Peralta and Gyorko were originally slated to likely work at the hot corner in some sort of platoon, but the latter's success while Peralta was sidelined with a bad reaction to medication has made that a moot point. Meanwhile, second-year man Aledmys Diaz, who hasn't quite duplicated the success of his rookie campaign, is nevertheless entrenched at Peralta's old shortstop spot for the foreseeable future. The 35-year-old is in the final season of a four-year, $53 million contract and has limited no-trade protection, meaning that a move from the team he's been with since 2014 could become reality if the Cardinals finds the right deal.
