John Lackey (elbow) threw 27 pitches Tuesday in a two-inning simulated game.

Lackey, who has been out all season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, hopes to pitch a couple of innings in the instructional league before the offseason begins. He should be 100 percent going into spring training next year. The 33-year-old right-hander is under contract for $15.25 million in 2013 and 2014.
