Jeffress could soon be sharing the closing duties once Will Smith shows he's back to his pre-injury form, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was activated from the DL on Tuesday, and has not yet pitched in a game, but manager Craig Counsell intimated he'll use Smith to close games at times in the near future. Jeffress has allowed a .178/.217/.205 slash line to right-handed hitters this season, so he should continue to get most of the looks against righty-heavy portions of the opposing lineup. However, Smith, a southpaw, is the better option against left-handed hitters, so Jeffress figures to lose out on some saves over the rest of the season.
