Jason Hammel dropped to 0-2 for the A's after giving up five runs in two-plus innings Saturday against the Orioles. Easily his worst start of the year; he had completed at least five innings in all 18 of his previous outings. Hammel gave up two homers and four runs in the first inning tonight. He went on to allow just a single in a scoreless second, but a walk, a single and an RBI double opened the third, getting him pulled. Incredibly, Dan Otero got out of the jam from there, leaving runners on second and third. We thought Hammel would probably wear down some in the second half, but hopefully it's not happening already. His next outing will give us a better idea whether it's time to begin worrying.
