Duda (intercostal muscle) took swings off a tee Wednesday for the first time in three weeks, Mike Vorkunov of the Star-Ledger reports. Duda appears to be at least a little ways off from returning to the field. His absence gives the likes of John Mayberry and Eric Campbell extra reps in spring training, or Brandon Allen in the case of Wednesday's contest. Duda is still the clear leader at first base heading into the season, but if either Mayberry or Campbell can show a propensity for hitting left-handed pitching, it could lead to a soft platoon at first base given Duda's splits against south paws (.180/.264/.252 in 2014).
