Allen Craig (hamstring) took batting practice and fielded grounders at second base before Thursday's game. Interesting. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has expressed a hesitancy to stick Craig at second base as former manager Tony La Russa did for a handful of games last season, but perhaps he's warmed to the idea. We can't imagine he'd spend a ton of time there, though, as he's a well below average defender there and would be more susceptible to injury. Plus, with Lance Berkman's (knee) season possibly over, Craig is needed at first base. The 27-year-old is slated to return when first eligible on June 1.
