According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, Freddy Sanchez still has yet to officially retire and remains open to the idea of making a comeback. The 36-year-old infielder missed the entire 2012 season due to shoulder and back surgeries, then sat out the 2013 campaign as he was unable to find a team willing to give him a shot. Even if he does secure a minor league deal someplace, he's unlikely to regain any fantasy relevancy.

Freddy Sanchez told CSNBayArea.com that he has no plans of retirement and is hoping to sign with a team in spring training. Sanchez's "dream situation" would be to re-sign with the Giants. Despite missing all of 2012 due to shoulder and back surgeries, he's still holding out for a guaranteed contract, but will likely need to lower his demands if he has any chance of signing with a team this season.

Freddy Sanchez's agent, Paul Cobbe, has told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that "about 20 teams" have asked for the second baseman's medical records. Cobbe contends that his client is healthy and says Sanchez has been playing pickup basketball six days a week to stay in shape. Sanchez missed all of 2012 due to shoulder and back surgeries, but he was able to play in several instructional league games as a DH. He's a huge health risk for 2013 but could be worth a shot on a non-guaranteed deal.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Freddy Sanchez has received interest from multiple teams this offseason. It's not clear if the Cardinals are one of the teams that have considered signing him, but he's yet to receive an offer. Sanchez missed all last season due to injuries and hasn't played since 2011. Assuming he's healthy, the 35-year-old will likely have to reestablish his value on a minor league deal.

Freddy Sanchez (back) is confident he'll be fully healthy by spring training. Sanchez didn't appear in a game with the Giants this season due to shoulder and back surgeries, but he recently played in several instructional league games as a designated hitter. The 34-year-old infielder will be a free agent this offseason and hopes to make a team next year. He will likely have to prove his health with a minor league deal.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) still hopes to make it back this season. The assumption was that Sanchez would miss the rest of the season following back surgery in July, but he's currently working out at the Giants' complex in Scottsdale and will soon begin playing in instructional league games. While Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner calls it a "highly unlikely" scenario, the 34-year-old hopes to be an option off the bench down the stretch.

Giants transferred INF Freddy Sanchez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster. Sanchez underwent season-ending back surgery in July and is due to hit free agency this winter.

Freddy Sanchez will miss the rest of the season following back surgery. The surgery, which took place Thursday, involved removing a piece of a disc from his back. The 34-year-old began the season on the disabled list following shoulder surgery, but the back issue crept up during his rehab process. His contract expires after this season, so there's a good chance his Giants' career is over.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Freddy Sanchez (back) is "not close" to returning. "It's been so long," Bochy said. "He's not close right now." Sanchez has received a pair of epidural injections in his lower back, and it's still a question as to how healthy his surgically-repaired shoulder is. Needless to say, he shouldn't be counted on to make an impact this season.

Freddy Sanchez (back) has resumed throwing. Sanchez was shut down for close to two weeks after getting an epidural in his back in late May to calm some renewed discomfort. He's feeling better and doing light workouts, but there's still no timetable for the veteran second baseman's return to the major leagues. He's doubtful to arrive in June.
