Esteban German signed with the Saitama Seibu Lions of Japan's Pacific League, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes. He'll earn $1 million in Japan. German, 33, appeared in just 11 games with the Rangers this past season, but was a surprise addition to the team's World Series roster. He became a free agent after being removed from the 40-man roster in November.

Esteban German has elected free agency. German had a nice year at Triple-A this season, batting .301/.388/.411 with seven homers over 508 at-bats, but he was up for only 13 plate appearances with the Rangers. The 33-year-old should land a spring training invite from someone.

Esteban German will be on the roster for the ALDS against the Rays. Andres Blanco, who was the backup infielder last year, will not be able to play due to lingering inflammation in his lower back. German only had 11 at-bats with the Rangers this season, but adds some some speed off the bench. Michael Young, who started at shortstop for the first time since 2008 earlier this week, will serve as the emergency backup to Elvis Andrus.

Rangers purchased the contract of INF/OF Esteban German from Triple-A Round Rock. German, 33, has stolen 44 bases in 53 attempts at the Triple-A level this season to go along with a .301 batting average and .388 on-base percentage. The Rangers value his ability as a pinch-runner, which is why they included him on their postseason roster last year. He'll get an audition during September.
