Holland was placed on unconditional release waivers by the White Sox on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Holland, who was recently shifted to the bullpen after struggling as a starter, is expected to pass through waivers and become a free agent. He struggled to a 6.20 ERA and 104:75 K:BB through 135 innings this season.

Holland is expected to be used as a reliever, manager Rick Renteria acknowledged following Wednesday's start, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.

EDGE Analysis

With Reynaldo Lopez (back) expected to be activated from the disabled list to start Friday against Tampa Bay, the White Sox will have six healthy starters. Renteria said he's unlikely to go with a six-man rotation, so someone has to go and Holland is the most likely. There remains the possibility that he could be traded prior to Thursday night's waiver-trade deadline, but Holland probably made his final start of the season Wednesday.

Holland (7-14) took another loss Wednesday, giving up five runs on eight hits and four walks in five innings against the Twins.

EDGE Analysis

Holland turned in a successful outing against these same Twins his last time out, but games like that have been the exception rather than the rule for him. The rule has mostly been disaster -- over his last five appearances, Holland has been annihilated to the tune of 23 runs in 16 innings with a 13:16 K:BB. In fact, he's been shockingly bad dating all the way back to the beginning of June, as Holland's last 18 games have seen him put up a 9.29 ERA and 2.09 WHIP while giving up 23 home runs in 73.2 innings. It's hard to imagine any fantasy format where he isn't a massive liability, and it's worth wondering how he's sticking in the major leagues even on a terrible White Sox team.

Holland (7-13) held the Twins to one run on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts over six innings to earn the win Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Holland recovered well from a trio of terrible starts in which he had allowed a whopping 17 runs over just five combined innings. His one mistake was a solo home run from Byron Buxton in the sixth inning. Holland did walk four batters, but his game plan of nibbling around the strike zone paid off in the end. Still, Holland's ERA sits at a lofty 6.05.

Holland (6-13) gave up seven runs on six hits and four walks while striking out one over 2.2 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

Simply put, Holland has no business starting for a major-league team the way he's pitching right now. The lefty had a 2.37 ERA through the first two months of the season, but he posted ERAs over 9.00 in June and July, and he's now given up 14 runs over 4.2 innings in his last two starts.

Holland (6-12) took the loss Sunday against the Royals after getting shelled for seven runs on seven hits in two-plus innings. He also walked three and struck out two.

EDGE Analysis

Holland was removed in favor of Mike Pelfrey after allowing a homer, a double and a walk without recording an out to open the third inning. Both of his inherited runners came around to score later in the frame, marking the ninth time in 23 starts that the lefty has surrendered at least six runs. Holland's splits coming into this one suggest he'd be a better fit in a situational role out of the bullpen than as a starter considering his wOBA allowed to left-handed batters is a tidy .265 but his mark against righties is a horrid .397. Assuming he stays in the rotation following what was yet another poor performance, Holland's next start will come Saturday at Texas.

Holland (6-11) allowed three runs on five hits over 5.2 innings during Tuesday's win over the Astros. He struck out five and walked seven.

EDGE Analysis

Holland was somehow able to limit the potent Astros' offense to just three runs despite allowing a ridiculous seven walks on the night. The southpaw has now failed to register a quality start in six of his past seven outings and should be left on the waiver wire in even the deepest of fantasy leagues. He has a date with the Royals in his next start on Sunday.

Holland pitched in relief Saturday and retired the only batter he faced in Chicago's 4-1 loss to Boston.

EDGE Analysis

Holland, who is still scheduled to start Tuesday, was getting in his in-between starts session.

Holland (5-11) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks over six innings while striking out three in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

EDGE Analysis

The quality start was his first since late June but Holland wasn't exactly sharp in this one, throwing only 61 of 108 pitches for strikes. The veteran lefty now sports a 5.29 ERA thanks largely to a 4.1 BB/9 and 2.1 HR/9, making him at extremely risky fantasy play in his next outing Tuesday at home against the Astros.

Holland (5-10) allowed six runs on nine hits and five walks without a strikeout over 4.1 innings in Friday's 9-3 loss to the Indians.

EDGE Analysis

With the major-league trade deadline looming, we have to wonder if this was Holland's final start in a White Sox uniform. And what might be his trade value after another short outing --

Friday's effort was the eighth time in the last 10 starts he's lasted fewer than six innings. The left-hander's season has gone sideways after he sported a 2.37 ERA over his first 10 games. Since the beginning of June, he's 1-6 with a 9.46 ERA and 17 home runs allowed over 45.2 innings.
