Chase Whitley held the Mets scoreless over 4 2/3 innings in his major league debut and took the no-decision as the Yankees emerged victorious by a 1-0 margin on Thursday.
Whitley was rolling through the ballgame, but got into some hot water in the fifth inning, walking the Mets' first two hitters, who were then moved up to second and third base on a Ruben Tejada sacrifice bunt. That's when manager Joe Girardi opted to pull Whitley in favor of reliever Dellin Betances. Overall, Whitley allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out four. Whitley, filling in for the injured CC Sabathia, will face the Cubs at Wrigley Field next.
