Despite throwing for the team at Camden Yards on Thursday, the Orioles are not expected to offer a contract to Arthur Rhodes. Rhodes is hoping to secure a minor league deal with a spring training invite after sitting out the entire 2012 season. He posted a 4.64 ERA and 21/11 K/BB ratio over 33 innings in 2011. Given the demand for quality left-handed relievers, it's likely he'll find at least one team willing to give him a shot.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners are interested in free agent reliever Arthur Rhodes. Rhodes, 42, took a step back in 2011, posting a 4.64 ERA over 51 games and getting released by the Rangers at midseason. He was an All-Star in 2010, though, and might be able to scrap together one more decent year in a pitcher's environment.

Veteran left-hander Arthur Rhodes said Thursday that he's hoping to play one more season. Rhodes told reporters that he'd like to re-sign with the Cardinals, for whom he has played a major role as a lefty specialist throughout the playoffs. The veteran southpaw had a disappointing regular season, but he should land a contract somewhere.

Arthur Rhodes walked the only batter he faced and was charged with the game-tying run Friday in the Cards' loss to the Cubs. Rhodes came in to start the eighth, walked Carlos Pena and was pulled. Kyle McClellan immediately gave up the game-tying double afterwards. In four appearances for the Cards, Rhodes has walked two, allowed a homer and taken a loss. His signing has already come back to bite Tony La Russa in a big way.

Arthur Rhodes said that in addition to the Cardinals, he had offers from the Yankees and Red Sox to join their major league bullpen and an offer from the Phillies to go to Triple-A for three appearances before joining the big club. Rhodes said he wants to pitch for a team that has a good shot of reaching the playoffs, so it's a little surprising that he chose the Cardinals over three teams that are virtually assured of postseason play. "I know there were a lot of teams out there that wanted me," Rhodes said. "But I wanted to come over here and play because I know this city is a baseball city and they love baseball so that's why I choose St. Louis. I get excited, man. I feel like a little kid again. I'm ready to go out there and pitch." Rhodes will be used as a situational lefty, with fellow southpaw Marc Rzepczynski getting a chance to throw multiple innings if needed.

Cardinals signed LHP Arthur Rhodes. Rhodes was released by the Rangers a few days ago after opening the season with a 4.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over his first 32 relief appearances. He's still an effective option against left-handed hitters and should do fine if used correctly by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. The 41-year-old will join up with the Redbirds on Friday.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Arthur Rhodes is expected to make a decision on which team to sign with on Thursday. Goold adds that Rhodes nearly signed with the Cardinals two years ago and his colleague, Joe Strauss, reported earlier that the Cardinals were "kicking tires" on the left-hander. They're one of several teams that have interest in the 41-year-old lefty, with the Yankees also known to be considering him.
