Vizcaino gave up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his first save of the season in Friday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.

EDGE Analysis

A leadoff double by Eric Thames made things interesting, but Vizcaino kept his cool and got out of the jam. The 26-year-old only got the call in the ninth because Jim Johnson has pitched in three of the last four games and was unavailable, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Braves gradually begin to work Vizcaino into the closer mix in anticipation of a deadline deal involving Johnson.

Vizcaino has a WHIP of 0.96 and an ERA of 2.08 in 26 innings this season as the primary set-up man in Atlanta.

EDGE Analysis

Vizcaino's poor 2016 is far behind him now, as he's been able to come back and return to the dominant form we saw from him in 2015. His fastball is up to 97.8 MPH this season, and he's stranding runners at a 90.5% clip. He's proven himself a valuable asset in fantasy leagues that include holds, as he's fourth in the National League with 13 of them. He has yet to record a save this season, but seems to have as secure a grip as possible as the eighth inning man for the Braves.

Vizcaino walked one and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning Monday against the Pirates to pick up his eighth hold of the season.

EDGE Analysis

He has yet to record a save this year but the 26-year-old has the eighth-inning job on lockdown for the Braves right now, posting a 2.45 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB in 18.1 innings. Should Jim Johnson get dealt over the summer, Vizcaino would be the favorite to assume the closer role.

Vizcaino walked one and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning Thursday to notch his fourth hold of the season in a win over the Mets.

EDGE Analysis

It was Vizcaino's first action since being tagged for three runs without recording an out by the Phillies on Sunday. The 26-year-old now has a strong 12:3 K:BB through 10 innings on the year, offering hope that his 4.50 ERA and 1.30 WHIP will come down as the season progresses. If Jim Johnson (5.19 ERA) continues to struggle, Vizcaino could yet find himself in the saves picture once again for the Braves.

Vizcaino allowed a double and back-to-back home runs without recording an out during the eighth inning of Sunday's loss to Philadelphia.

EDGE Analysis

The poor outing saddled Vizcaino with his first loss of the season and upped his ERA to 5.00. He features an impressive pitch arsenal and has struck out 61 batters over just 47.2 innings dating back to last season. However, his 4.53 ERA and 1.57 WHIP during that stretch limit the value his punchouts add.

Vizcaino struck out two in a perfect eighth inning Tuesday to get credit for the win in a 5-4 victory over the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

Remarkably, the strikeouts were his first of the year in four appearances, but otherwise Vizcaino has looked sharp so far in 2017 and has yet to allow a run. Should the Braves' closer spot open up at some point, the 26-year-old would likely get yet another chance at ninth-inning duty after recording 19 saves over the last two seasons.

Vizcaino allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth inning during Friday's 5-4 loss to the Pirates.

EDGE Analysis

The Braves bullpen has had a brutal start to the season, but Vizcaino has been one of the few bright spots. The 26-year-old has yet to record a strikeout in two innings of work, but his 97 mph fastball is jumping and he should continue to be used in what high-leverage situations the team can muster.

Vizcaino struck out two in a perfect inning of work during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

The 26-year-old has been impressive and, most importantly, healthy this spring, posting a 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB through seven innings. Vizcaino will open the season setting up Jim Johnson, making him a safer bet for fantasy value in leagues that reward holds, but if Johnson gets dealt over the summer Vizcaino could find himself back in the closer role.

Vizcaino hit 98 mph with his fastball while striking out two in an inning of work during Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

EDGE Analysis

He did give up a solo home run to Andrew Benintendi, but otherwise it's been a great start to the spring for Vizcaino, who's whiffed five batters in his first two appearances. The shoulder injury that derailed his second half last year doesn't appear to be an issue for him heading into 2017, and Vizcaino should begin the season as the Braves' primary setup man.

Vizcaino (shoulder) will set up Jim Johnson if he's healthy to begin the season, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

EDGE Analysis

Braves manager Brian Snitker squashed any thought of a spring competition for the ninth-inning role Friday, naming Johnson his closer and saying the focus for Vizcaino was just to stay off the DL, something the 26-year-old has yet to do in his big league career. "(Vizcaino) hasn't done it in a long time. Viz has just got to be healthy. We just hope we get him through [the spring], and he's healthy and back to being like he was when I got here last year in May," Snitker said. Johnson is far from an elite closing option and could always get traded, so Vizcaino might yet rack up some saves in 2017, but at this point you should wait and see how he looks in Grapefruit League action before considering him even as an option to stash on your reserve list.
