Marlins sent OF Alfredo Silverio outright to Triple-A New Orleans. Silverio missed the entire 2012 season following a car accident and Tommy John surgery, but the Marlins took a chance when they selected him from the Dodgers in the Rule 5 Draft last December. However, the 26-year-old suffered a setback with his elbow earlier this year and required Tommy John surgery for the second time.

Marlins outfielder Alfredo Silverio underwent his second Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the 2013 season. The outfielder hadn't played a game this year for the Marlins, as he was placed on the 60-day DL with a sprained right elbow before the season. He was the team's top pick in the Rule 5 Draft this past December after hitting .306 with 16 home runs and 85 RBI with the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate in 2011. He missed the entire 2012 season after sustaining injuries in a car crash.

Marlins placed OF Alfredo Silverio on the 60-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow. It's not clear how long the Rule 5 pick will be out. Silverio missed the entire 2012 season after injuring his neck and back in an auto accident.

Rule 5 pick Alfredo Silverio has been diagnosed with a sprained right elbow and has no return timetable. Silverio is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, so this will be treated with much more caution than a typical elbow sprain. The 25-year-old outfielder will have to be returned to the Dodgers if he doesn't make the Marlins' big league roster. But the Marlins are allowed to keep him on the disabled list for as long as they want.

Rule 5 pick Alfredo Silverio homered as the Marlins' designated hitter Saturday against the Cardinals. It came off lefty specialist Randy Choate, a guy the right-handed-hitting Silverio would never face in a close game during the regular season. The Marlins are expected to stash Silverio away on the disabled list to begin the year, as he's still recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident a year ago.

Alfredo Silverio (elbow) is likely to begin the season on the disabled list. Silverio missed the entire 2012 season after injuring his neck and back in an auto accident and later requiring Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. The Marlins selected the 25-year-old from the Dodgers in December's Rule 5 Draft and figure to bring him along slowly.

Dodgers transferred OF Alfredo Silverio from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
