Joe Pavelski RW SAN 2 Months

Joel Pavelski is unlikely to repeat his 41-goal season next year.

The Sharks center was one of three players to top 40 goals. He has always been a great two-way player, but not really considered a prolific goal scorer like he showed last year. His 41-goal season came on the heels of an 18.2 shooting percentage, which is way over his 11.1 percent rate. Pavelski finished the season with 79 points. A 30-goal, 70-point season -- certainly excellent numbers -- isn't out of the question for 2014-15.

Pavelski skated alongside Joe Thornton and Brent Burns. That's been his regular spot lately, but he did spend part of Game 2 on the third line, so that's why this is noteworthy. The San Jose Sharks are considering using Joe Pavelski as the team's third-line center.

That's an unusual spot for a guy that scored 41 goals, but moving Pavelski might give the Sharks three strong scoring lines. In that scenario Tomas Hertl would probably be reunited with Joe Thornton and Brent Burns on the top line.

Forward Joe Pavelski scored his 40th and 41st goals of the season to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 victory over the Coyotes in Phoenix Saturday night.

Both of Pavelski's goals were netted in the first period. Pavelski has had a first-rate season and has notched at least a point in seven of his team's final eight regular-season games. Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, his 23rd of the season. The Sharks entered the game locked into a first-round playoff series against the Kings, starting in the coming week, so the game against the Coyotes Saturday was merely a tuneup.
